Does it make a difference: Laying Wires in a line or segmented

Recommended Posts

When it comes to powering your base does it make a significant difference how you lay the wires? I do the segmented style where the wire are all laid down and a connection comes up for each individual device. But Ive seen some players use the line style where one wire crosses through all devices in its path. Primarily Ive seen this strategy only used for batteries, but Im wondering if there is any significant difference or just personal choice.

If you have multiple buildings in a row like this, the second version will be just as good as the first one while costing a lot less to build. However, wires have negative decor, so in areas where you don't have a lot of buildings directly next to each other, it makes more sense to run the wire through the floor and only let it stick out when you're connecting it to a building,

So its all about cost efficiency and the reality is that it doesnt particularly matter in terms of power output? Interesting. I figured it would be the case. Thanks

Regarding connection to the grid, it's irrelevant. Everything connected to same continuous wire is equal. Regarding material cost and decor impact, it's matter of preference.

Each wire segment, regardless to how many neighbors is it connected, costs the same amount of resources and - if exposed - has the same decor impact. From this point of view, the lower solution is better since it uses about half the material and has about the same (one tile more) decor impact. If the "outlets" are more spaced, though, the protruding connections use slightly more resources but have lower (half or less) negative impact on decor because most of the connecting wire is hidden in the floor.
