Programmable Robotics

Recommended Posts

I like minimal bases with minimal dupes.

I dislike assigning a valuable resource like a dupe to a mundane and routine task like sweeping.

I play games to have fun.

I like programming.

I think adding another toy to my sandbox would increase the potential for fun.

You both seem to lack imagination.

I can't write an algorithm to control a dupe.

I'm not lack of imagination, and idea of adding bots was posted on forum. I just wanted some kind of explanation why YOU want them in game because you wrote only that you want them and nothing more.

Programmable bots probably never happen in ONI because it's not that kind of game. Also it could be too complex for most of the players. Even if bots will be added, they will probably do only one selected task on limited area and nothing more fancy.

Klei could probably do some kind of robot if they wanted to for end game content. They could act identically to dupes but instead of food require coal or power fed to them. They wouldn't need oxygen to breath but can't easily be healed of damage. I wouldn't put it in the game now. But maybe once the tech tree expands a bit more I can see it working.

The automation the game already has seems to be a lot to take in already for the game. So I wouldn't put any bets on programming my own robot brain making it into the game any time soon. Unless it was made to be really simple. Which I don't think is exactly what op is looking for.
