Remember Last Material

When you load a save game, the most recent building material for all Buildings is forgotten. The next time you select a Building to build, the most abundant available building material is automatically selected.

For example, here I select Wire, which defaults to the Raw Metal I have the most of, which happens to be Wolframite at the moment:

When I saved the game, Copper Ore was selected.

I prefer to save Wolframite for applications that require good thermal conductivity, such as cooling down a Thermo Aquatuner or producing Tungsten tiles. Due to this automatic selection behavior, I often find myself canceling builds or deconstructing things that were made with unintended materials. In some cases, I run out of something I thought I had plenty of because it was used when I expected something else to be used.

My suggestion is as such:

  • The very first time you select a particular Building for a given game, default to the most abundant material
  • For all subsequent times, default to the most recent material selected (even if not built)
  • Remember the most recent selection when loading from a save file

For the most part, this is how the game already works, except for that third point. It remembers my most recent selection while playing the game, but every time I load a save I need to be mindful of what materials things wind up getting built with.
