Starnight
I could use some help in figuring out how to clean dirty water and or make more water. I am new to this game and the articles I read said that a distillation that will change dirty water to clean but the only device I have that will do that turns it into fertilizer. i have discovered ice and have started to harvest it and by what i have read is i need to put it in a storage container and then heat the room it is in and it will start to melt in the container. any other ideas would be helpful. Le0n1des
1. There is a water purifier further up the research tree 2. Ice and snow will melt better undug. Upon digging you lose half the mass and when putting into a storage - you'll have to wait for the whole 20 tons to melt instantaneously 3. If you don't want to reload before the "ice harvesting", cap the containers in the hot room to 200 kg (or whatever the carrying capacity of the dupe doing the sweep/deliver jobs) and set to high priority, to be refilled when the previous batch is done melting Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/84192-cleaning-dirty-water/#findComment-974234 Share on other sites
WanderingKid
So, there's a few things. First, if you're new, don't go for Electrolyzers quickly. There is a TON of algae out there. Also, be very selective about your dupes. You don't want to catch 'em all. There are 3 'wastes' of water. Showers. Just don't. Bristle Berry. Not worth it. Meal Lice and Mushrooms. Electrolyzers before infrastructure. Now that we've cured the over use of early water, you should have *plenty* for early and mid game. Next up: Steam geysers. This is your 'easy' source of fresh water. Just need to cool it down or destroy the heat. If you poke around you'll find things about destroying heat, but your easiest method is to find a cold biome with Wheezeworts and use those. Experiment a bit. Turning Polluted Water (PH2O) into clean water (H2O) can be done via the following: Water Distillers: They won't remove the germs, but they do remove the pollution. Boilers: Boil the PH2O into H20 then cool it back down to collect it. Distillers cost sand but you literally have way too much of it, so don't worry about it. Boilers are complex and take a lot of time to figure out. Experiment a bit. You don't need to cool down geyser water if all you use it for is electrolysis, hygiene, irrigation and oil wells. Most other uses are crutches (musher, algal terrarium). Musher is a bigger waste of water than electrolysis. To feed a single dupe with musher, you need at least 75 kg of water per cycle (for dirt bar, lice bar is less efficient at +500kcal/50kg water). Duplicant consumes 100g/s of oxygen, so at 88% efficiency, you need at most 600 seconds / 88% * 0.1 kg/dupe = 68.2 kg of water per dupe - and it can go down if dupes are wheezing due to lack of air (they don't consume extra oxygen while doing that, but their breath stat still goes up faster). The biggest waste of water - bar none - is the algal terrarium. It consumes 300g/s for at most 44g/s oxygen, giving it 15% water efficiency, so you need 400kg of water just to provide oxygen for one (non-wheezing) dupe. That's assuming the terrarium is in light all the time. Even if you consider the CO2 removal a bonus, carbon skimmer consumes 1kg water per 300g CO2, compared to terrarium's 1kg of water per 1.11g CO2. You can then distill the skimmer water, but terrarium just removes water. Algal terrariums are so inefficient they are less of a crutch and more of a noob trap.
