Bargeral Posted September 30, 2017 Share Posted September 30, 2017 Some thoughts on doors. Get rid of the "door toggle" (Auto, Open, Lock) as it is now redundant with the direction permissions. Maybe make the center block of the default permission line an x or a padlock icon. So < x > In addition to the "Default" permission have a "Suit Required" permission, with left right options. . Reduce the electric cost, such that players are inclined to wire doors up - and slow down the un-wired cycle speed so a manual door is faster than a disconnected automatic door, but a connected automatic door is fastest and near instant. (Lamps should be cheaper to run too.) Update the left right permissions to be more clear for rotated up/down doors. In fact, dedicated up/down hatches might be nice as the rotated doors are off center. . On reflection, I'm nixing my top suggestion. Lock open is useful for stuff. The suit checkpoint is intended for that purpose. What I would love to have on doors is a "delivery filter" - specify which resources can be delivered through the door and in which direction. Set up the same way as for duplicants, a global setting, then individual setting for each resource. What puts most players off is that they think that it consumes power at all times, so I think it should be mentioned in the UI that it only consumes power when in use. I don't think that's the only reason. Like the OP mentions having them un-powered makes them still have the ability to open up almost instantly. There's no need to wire them up. If it did what the description alludes to and made them as slow as manual doors when un-powered then there would be more reasons to wire them up. Right now the only downside to them is they are double the resources to make.
