chackacraft
I've built my air piping out of Abyssalite to help with cooling the food farm, however i notice that some sections are scortching, some are chilled. why is that?
Beowulfe
It may have depended on the specific pieces of Abyssalite that your dupes built it out of, I think the objects retain the heat of the materials they were made out of when they're created. You may have mined some really cold and really hot abyssalite at different points. It's a little hard to control at the moment, unfortunately. terrachronos
It might have something to do with the temperature of the abyssalite at the time of construction. It is very good at retaining the temperature it has. Which at the same time makes me wonder why you are trying to use pipes made of a highly insulating material to cool off the surrounding area, you'd want a heat conductor for that like wolfram. After the thermal update constructed tiles and buildings have gained the ability to change their temperature.
chackacraft
Thanks Beowulfe and terrachronos and terrachronos - i see what you mean, i was thinking of making the gas travel at a low temp, but i wasn't thinking of how to make the piping release the cool temped air from the piping. back to the drawing board

As your post mentioned. I said exactly the same thing you did, I think.

The temperature of abyssalite can only be changed right after deconstruction. There is a very small window of time where the abyssalite item will exchange heat with its surroundings. Regardless, hot or cold abyssalite will not affect its surroundings when constructed.
Lafara
Abyssalite Thermal Conductivity 1E-05 is 0.00001 Granite Thermal Conductivity 3.39 is 3.39000 If you looking for cooling Gas Pipe , goes for Granite or Sandstone.
