Mast3r07
Does meal lice spoil in ration boxes? I saw players going only with meal lice, and not with liceloaf(because of water waste). Also noticed that liceloaf spoils in ration boxes. If you have, for example, 60.000 kcal only meal lice, you need several fridges to store them, and this means big power usage and big coal usage(generators)... and heat. Not worth it... Vilda
Yes, ration boxes do not prevent spoiling, they just reduce the clutter. Food spoils after 9 cycles, with no indication. And Duplicants don't necessarily eat the oldest food first. Risu
8 day spoil timer on all food types currently. Will say it's stale after 4 days. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/75135-meal-lice-spoilage/#findComment-875302 Share on other sites
Vilda
hmm, how is that counted in code? when I tested it, my initial rations spoiled at the end of the cycle 9. By indication I meant something more visible then checking stats of every food item. Risu
The rot timer is paused if the temperature is below the preservation temperature. Could have had a period where it was fine. The food is preserved below 4C. Seems unlikely that food will be sitting under that temperature for long. Vilda
Can't discount that possibility though it was a standard starting area with about 22 °C . Anyway I'll update food list accordingly to 8. Hmm, might just as well throw in information on storage options. Masterpintsman
Why even bother with a ration box, refridgerators or harvesting? Just have enough planter boxes, let the lice drop naturally and the duplicants will come to pick some up when hungry. In case you don't want them to stay in the area to eat: build tables and they'll come, pickup (and replant if needed), then leave in a hurry. Risu
(No idea why it reposted my message above. This post editor is terrible.) The fridge really is more trouble than it's worth with it's endless supply of heat. Mast3r07
So... Is it possible to pause the rot timer of meal lice if you put the ration boxes in an isolated room and keep the temperature below the preservation point? I am there with you on refrigerators for Lice, but the farm grows quite big when counting on it dropping itself. I like to play with 12 duplicants and that would make about 60 plants farm. A big area to isolate and cool. And Ration box for them to take the Lice out on the way so they don§t wander here and destroy the precious air by airlock. Of course, I could build a closed diagonally accessed farm but that one would be even bigger and kinda exploity. If they drop the water price of Liceloaf, then refrigerator will be useful - 1 in a place of ten. And double the yield of one plant.
