Randomly Starting Winter? (No Trap)

Recommended Posts

Huh.  First of all, was it your own server or somebody else's, and was there anybody else playing with you?  If it was someone else's server, they could've set the seasons to random lengths without your knowing it--and one of the legit choices for a season length is "none"--i.e., you can completely _skip_ a season.   Do you remember seeing birch trees go straight from green to bare without turning colours first?

Also, did it just suddenly happen during the day or was it summer one night, winter the next morning?  The second one is how random seasons work; the other indicates a trap or some kind of shenanigans.  And THAT'S where the "was there someone else playing with you?" comes in, as _they_ could've activated the winter trap off-screen.

Now, mind you, those traps have been taken out of DST...BUT...there are mods involving set-piece placement that can possibly put those back in.  I have one like that myself.  So...

EDIT:  Took out the part about singleplayer season randomisation being different 'cos if it was SINGLEPLAYER, of _course_ Ethlin would know whether or not they had randomised their own world's seasons!  (smacks self upside head)  Duh.

...Notorious

It was my server and seasons were set to default (Fall > Winter > Spring > Summer > Fall) and happened right in the middle of a day, not overnight like when a season normally changes. I was the only one on the server at the time (I like soloing DST when friends are not on since it's much more difficult). Yeah the trees switched immediately and snow started falling. My server was an offline "solo-server" so I doubt it was anyone comign in and activating anything.

I did a rollback and it didn't happen again, so I have no idea what happened that one time. I did have a few mods on, including a setpiece one that has those ones still in, but the one I saw I activated on the final day of fall, two seasons ago. And when the winter suddenly happened, I didn't hear the deerclops roar like you normally do upon activating the trap.

Not sure, but as I said I did a rollback and it didn't happen again, so it's not a huge issue, but it was still really strange.
