Requesting advice/tips for maxwell

Recommended Posts

So far I've got a few problems with maxwell which for the life of me I cannot seem to be able to fix.First is the shadow puppets. When the hounds attack, the workers are always instagibbed and I cannot protect them. That is a major issue for me.The second issue is his fragile hit points. I always move around with armor since I get twice the amount of damage normal characters get (that's half hp for maxwell) but I always run out of armor and not having a backpack with me is annoying. Plus when it's raining and when it's summer you have to wear this nice eyebrella but that leaves no room for helmet.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Puppets are weak in vanilla, you want loggers or miners. Ideally hire pigs for protection and chopping, plus diggers to dig out stumps. Miners are good, but don't go to the caves with them. As Max, you really need tooth traps, tentacle fields, beefalo etc. And a bushhat! Usually there's no need to bother with sanity restoration through food and clothes. Save the slots for armour. You may want to try either the nightmare combo or marble suits. Thulecite items, of course, rule the world.

If you get jellybeans, they can be good when around enemies. But ideally you raze down rocks and trees, not fight. Magic and other sanity-intensive activities are your duty too. If you're really hard-pressed, use ranged weapons to avoid entering the melee.

Try to always keep some salve on you. It's important to keep Maxwell's hp full or as close to full as possible. And don't forget about foods that restore a lot of health. My diet consists mostly of bacon and eggs as well as honey ham and the occasional pierogi.

And when hounds attack, it's usually best to dismiss your puppets unless you have a large field of tooth traps. They're usually pretty good at keeping out of danger, but they have problems keeping away from everything when they're swarmed. If you didn't know you can hold ctrl then click on them to attack the puppets. If you attack them this way you'll get 1 fuel back. I find that it's better to lose only one fuel instead of two.

Another thing Maxwell is good at is getting nightmare fuel. Make 2 duelists and a worker and your max sanity will be so low you'll always be insane. Grab yourself a hambat and armor then just keep smacking all those shadows.

And this isn't all that useful, but still something worth noting: Using /dance will cause your puppets to stop what they're doing and come to you. So if you accidentally walk by one of your glorious statues with a shadow miner you can get them to stop trying to break it.

Although Maxwell can't really wear night armor because his sanity gain isn't as good as it use to be, wearing a tam with night armor stops the drain and gives garland level sanity gain.

Now this is what I call advice. Thanks a lot guys.

Another nice thing about Maxwell is that he can join in Spring without much problems because the sanity drain from wetness is negated by his own. So you could be at 100% wetness and only have to worry about keeping warm.

Maybe for the DS Maxwell, but not the DST Maxwell. If you ignore the rain you will lose a nice chunk of sanity from all the wet items you're holding and wearing. DST Maxwell has sanity regen that's about as good as a tam. It's still nice, but it's not really gonna be enough to negate wetness completely.

Are you sure? I've always played DST and I remember being able to do this. Did Maxwell receive a sanity nerf?
