Some tips please.

I'll try to help a bit, adding on to what @Arlesienne said before (so I will be repeatedly quoting her if I have anything to add to her tips.)

A) Prebuilt:

- crockpot

- alchemy engine

- drying rack (you will want as many as possible of these)

- tent

- birdcage

- fridge

- pighut

Try to bring a Prestihatitator along with you. If you're playing Reign Of Giants and you're planning on exploring the Caves level (I don't know about the ruins), using a Miner hat along with a Rain Coat and a Walking Cane will make it so much easier since you won't have to worry about the frequent heavy rains down there while also being able to move quickly. I'd also recommend bringing a log suit so you can switch it with the Rain Coat whenever you need to fight, which would happen quite frequently with the insanity rate down there.

3. Who will work best in DS caves (a suggestion)?

- Willow because of how she will have her sanity restored from fires (which you need in the darkness anyway), the lighter of unlimited durability

- Maxwell due to his massive sanity regen rate

- Wendy as Abigail will be at her best all the time

- WX as you will get more gears than you can chew in the ruins

- Webber can be good since he'll have lots of spider friends IF you can handle his small sanity pool

- Wigfrid's battlehorn ability lets her heal her health and sanity by killing mobs, allowing a longer worry-free exploration trip. Wigfrid, having to carry meat everywhere, is a common target to Bunnymen (like Webber), so keep that in mind.

7. Depth worms - instead of hound waves, you get these attacks. Can be kited.

To kite a wave of them, just run around until they all combine with each other into 1 big lump of worms, then make them all try to hit you at once (I usually do it by walking in front of them from one side to the other) and getting as many hits as possible when they miss.

8. Rock lobsters are your friends - feed them the cheapest minerals (since it's square to them whether you are giving them flint/rocks or gems, they eat for vast quantities, not quality) and have bodyguards.

They're extremely useful when exploring the caves (and ruins). They can be used for mainly distraction. Just send one after a bunnyman in a village, let it hide (which makes it regenerate health and only take 1 damage per hit, I believe) and kill off the bunnymen 1 by 1 for easy meat and carrots (and the occasional bunny puff for a fur roll, which is useful when excess food is present and health / sanity is needed on the go).

I'd also recommend bringing along a prebuilt crockpot wherever you go, especially in the ruins. Fillers are pretty common (mushrooms in the caves level and lichen in the ruins), meat is relatively easy to obtain (spiders of all kinds / bunnymen / monkeys in the ruins). Making a few camps in the Ruins could also help, since all monkeys turn aggressive on the nightmare phase, so you'd need a place for light or to stay away till it's over.

If you come across slurtles, try to grab a snurtle shell. It's extremely useful when being chased by 2318391723 monkeys on low health and no armor / weapon. When you hide in it, all mobs attacking you lose aggro in 2 seconds, allowing you to even hide from Terrorbeaks (although they will come back to you when you get out of the shell, unless you wait for them to despawn.)

I hope I helped.

This is all very good advice. I mentioned prebuilding structures before the descent to preserve inventory space; with the addition of wax paper used to bundle up products, I find it essential. It works like a portable fridge, though unbundling the things makes quite a mess, possibly inviting mobs to eat them. Still an excellent investment.

Though, this is the singleplayer game. Bundling wraps aren't a thing in here. For DST, this indeed works very well.

That lump multiplies damage if you get hit for whatever reason. The only advantage to that is using less space, which helps if you aren't as prepared in terms of lighting.

Worms don't have "strong" aggro like Hounds, so sometimes you will find that only one comes to you while the others find homes of the sides of the screen. This lets you pick them off one by one, which how you're going to kill them anyway. You can also lure them away from the point of spawn and then aggro them one by one, or let bunnies or lobsters deal with them.
