Server locking

When you start a server with caverns enabled the host (you) are no longer the server.

In the background the game spawns two processes- one for the overworld and one for the caverns- and you join them as a client connecting to a server.

Thus, there is the latency effect that you are feeling.

Should your computer not be able to keep up due to CPU shortages then there will be increased amounts of latency, or if your RAM filled up and the computer is going to paged files (very bad for performance).

 

In short, hosting without caverns makes a listen server where you and the server are the same, and one with caverns creates a full client/server relationship with multiple servers working on conjunction with one another.

This should not be fixed?

It's in your machine specs. So no, it can't be fixed on Klei's side, because it's not on their side. Does it make sense?

You need more CPU and RAM, likely, different settings may help you. Impossible to say without knowing your specs.
