still not able to find gears for my second summer xD

Recommended Posts

Oooook. My first summer was really annoying. I had to stay in a secondary base with only a science machine a fire pit and endo fire pit. So after that i explored more and i still have not been able to find gears. I am in my second spring and i am usually cautious about hound waves. So usually after a hound wave i do my best to explore as much as i can in a short time period of at least 1 day. I am on day 106 in spring and i have still not been able to find gears. I already prepared for summer during winter and been getting a lot of blue gems. I will be able to make a chilled amulet and i already have a ice staff, but i am still unable to get an ice flingomatic. Is the chilled amulet and the ice wand alone enough for surviving summer? Especially during times where your base will start smoldering. I have no idea if the ice staff alone is enough to protect smoldering in your base.

Wow, geez, that is some real bad luck... I would suggest picking a bunch of tumbleweeds in hopes to get gears. You might be lucky, you might be very lucky and you might have bad luck in getting them from weeds, considering they're a 1% chance. But then again, this gear problem seems kind of like an issue that needs addressing, especially because in the case of people making private bases, getting easy gears from clockworks is a "first come, first serve thing". Not a problem for you if you're playing on a private server yourself, however.

Edit; if you're brave enough you could find the ruins in caves (if they're enabled) and kill them and/or whack clockwork piles for possible gears.

You can try to dig grave or open tumbleweed if you haven't tried yet. Sometime, it's helpful.

I don't think an ice staff alone is enough to protect your base for smoldering if your base is big. But since you haven't fridge anyway and farm are useless without flingomatic, maybe you could create a small summer base somewhere, easier to protect ?

Farms can actually be a good supply of grass if the crops wither.

Well i am in spring right now and i am trying to prepare. I have a chilled amuelet so i dont have to worry about overheating. My base isnt too large though. I only have one crock pot actually, 3 drying racks. And i dont really use farms often so i just made a normal farm next to it though i dont use it much. I am always making meatballs. I have a bee box and i am close to a big Savannah (unfortunately no beefalo there lel). Mac tusk camps there. I could try to send a picture here sooner or later.

Anyway i guess i just need to have a crock pot or drying rack in my smaller base. I would always fear of those trying to combust but i do have a ice staff.

Also i am not near a desert so there seems to be no ways to get gears at all other then dig graves. The graves on my world are veeery far so i guess gears are a rare chance at where i am at.

I am on my own world so no one can join my game. It is just me xD.

Oy, I know what this is like.  Well, not for almost TWO years in a row, but I too have spent the entire summer at a secondary base so that my first one wouldn't burn down, all because of those !@#$ing elusive gears!  My secondary base ended up having both types of firepit, a crockpot (I consider that absolutely essential for anywhere you're gonna spend more than a few days) and, like, 4 drying racks.  I got through most of the summer that way just fine, until--and some of you have heard this story before--Dragonfly popped out of nowhere like "YO, 'SUP?!" right over my shoulder*. After I got over my heart attack, I booked it away to...my main base.  I hadn't really given the "to" part of running much thought, just the "away" part.

Luckily, not only did my main base not burn down for the relatively short amount of the season left, but even my SECONDARY base, which the Dragonfly had come within spitting distance of, was also untouched!  Even the oh-so-flammable drying racks.

But, not everyone can luck out like that.  I was amazed _I_ did.

All I can say is...keep looking, and I feel your pain.  And definitely make a crockpot at your secondary base; your hunger stat will thank you for it.  It's not made out of super-rare materials or anything, so if you need to rebuild it, you can.  Me, I put my secondary base in the birch forest, so there was potential charcoal EVERYwhere!  :D

Also your base is adorable, and looks kinda similar to how I arrange things.  Right down to the put the plants down first, THEN decorative flooring, so you get weird stuff like carpet-farms.  : P

...Notorious

*Needless to say this was Don't Starve singleplayer, as Dragonfly kinda stays put in Together.

Yeah i was about to say with what u were saying about the dragonfly. I am so glad (kind of) he is a raid boss instead of a giant who lights ur stuff on fire at base. And thank you. I am glad you like my base :D. My priority is to get drying racks and crock pot at my second base. My ice staff should be better in smaller bases like that to put out smoldering things.
