A thank you letter from a Chinese player.

Recommended Posts

Hi, all the Don't Starve developers:

I am a normal Don't Starve player from mainland China. Since the existence of language barrier, only a few Chinese players visit this forum. But in fact, Don't Starve is quite a popular game in China, and I really appreciate that you have provided us such a wonderful game.

Although I can only present myself to thank you for developing Don't Starve, there is something I can present the other players in mainland China to do, which is to apologize. You may know that we didn't pay for play games in the past, most of Chinese players played hack version of Don't Starve at first, certainly without paying any money to Klei. For in mainland China, the rights of game developers haven't be guaranteed. I myself also played free hack version for a while. I am really sorry for that.

But things are getting much better now, with the help of Steam, Chinese players can buy games much easier, and more and more people choose to pay for playing, especially after the Don't Starve Together came out. Many players, like me, decided to register a Steam account just for playing DST. I believe in the future, most Chinese players would pay for game they love to play.

In the end, I want to thank for the harding-working of all the stuffs in Klei. A report about the CEO of Klei, Jamie Cheng was published in China last month, then we came to now how hard had they been through before the success of Don't Starve. Without their insist on developing this game, many Chinese players may never know a game could be played in such way and have great yet unique gaming experience (before Minecraft and Don't Starve, only limited players in China like to play sandbox games).

Thank you very much !

Thanks for taking the time to reach out! We're always happy to hear from our fans in China. Please don't be shy about reporting bugs too - we know of at least three that have only affected our users in China or have predominantly affected our users in China, and sadly we rarely hear anything despite them affecting a lot of people.

Thanks again for playing, and I hope we hear more from you!
