Spectator Mode on Servers

Is there a way to spectate on the DST servers from a top-down angle?

If so, how?

If not, are there plans to implement something like this?

Hmm... Peter has a Spectator mod that he was working on, but it's set to friends-only right now. I'm guessing that there were some rough edges to it that he never got around to fixing to put it in a publishable state, but we could ask him. @PeterA? Perhaps it could be handed off to a community modder to finish up and maintain if that's more convenient.

But when you say top-down angle, I'm guessing you mean you want a higher vantage point than you normally get? That's possible, but there are some issues with it I believe (related to draw distance and lag).

well if there is one, set it to friend only would be the best, that sort of thing would be bad in public pvp server

like they would tell their friend where the other player are, so they could go there and kill them and even burn their base and stuff

@Gavary_Henaii By friends-only I meant the workshop listing-- you can set mods to be friends-only, which means that only your friends can see it, subscribe to it, and use it, and the existing spectator mod is set to friends-only right now.

I'll have to look into this for sure! I appreciate the information @rezecib. I have a fun plan in the works for my stream so it most certainly helps to have this input!

Yeah the spectator mod was a hack character-mod I threw together for one of our PAX builds. It has certain quirks, like the spectator being able to pickup items still  If someone wants to take the mod and run with it to fully flesh it out, they are more than welcome to (message me and I'll add you on Steam), with the added warning that it might likely break from other changes to the game, and eventually we want to put an official spectator mode into DST.
