Advice for prime ape farm

Recommended Posts

Prime apes are not hostile to anything, so you need something that is hostile to everything. Snakes work, and provide a good source of snakeskin, some monster meat and an occasional venom gland. This is helpful especially after the snake drop nerf in the last update. Dragoons... I don't know. To me sounds that sounds like a fire hazard, prime ape huts look a lot like unignited bonfires.

Bees also work during monsoon season for stingers and honey. Situational mosquito farm is also an option, for yellow mosquito sacks and venom glands.

Merms could be an option, but I've not tried this, so I don't know if it would work or not.

Just wall off 8 or so prime ape huts and make wars between them by getting one prime ape to attack the other.

You get ridiculous amounts of morsels and bananas within a day, and is much faster than using another creature.

I'll try this too! hopefully I can find enough bananas before sealnado find me again LOL!

You can actually do this with just 1 tame prime ape, although obviously the more the merrier. You'll quickly make a banana profit once you get going, and you can renew your bananas by feeding the spoiled ones to the apes.

Damn, I never thought I'd ever type that sentence out.

monkey huts do not catch fire. Although, their dropped bananas do so the dragoons will burn everything except the meat. Spiders and monkeys work great when u have a spider hat to control spiders to instigate wars. You could also feed a monkey then start the war but its not as smooth as using the spider hat. Unfortunately snakes dont spawn from player planted vines, only naturally occurring ones so you have to find the specific vines with snakes and then build around that.

That looks like a bug. The intention in the code seems to indicate that they are flammable. Ref: primeapebarrel.lua line 154.

EDIT: Yes this is a bug, the huts are not fire propagators, which will prevent them catching on or spreading fire. Created a bug entry.

Heard about this 'civil war' tactic but I never got it to work. I assume you need to have mobs from 2 or more spawners? The ones from the same prime monkey huts or spider nests don't seem to attack each other.

Yeah, they need to be from separate spawners.

It may also help to put a silly monkey ball in a chest by each hut so they congregate around it. This'd make it easier to determine which hut they're from I guess.

I just have one ball in chest trap thing, but when you have over 10 huts you're practically guaranteed to start a large scale fight with just a few tame monkeys.

I don't believe they need to be from separate huts since I've started plenty of fights on islands with just one prime ape hut (the "war" just isn't so much of a war but rather a fight between 2-3). Befriended prime apes should attack whatever you want it to, so it wouldn't make sense if they don't attack another prime ape just because they came from the same hut. But of course, the wars work better when there's multiple huts around. I usually suggest befriending one from each hut (if you can catch them spawning) and then going to the center or somewhere around other prime apes and then issuing an attack.

If you make camp on an island with lots of snake spawning viney bushes (never dig up the viney bushes that shake) that's your best bet. Build monkey huts near them and place a chest with a silly monkey ball in it the middle to gather the monkeys around it and every night they will battle it out and give you lots of bananas, morsels and snake skins.

You can also build a banana farm with unfertilized coffee plants around a chest with a monkey ball in it to get unlimited bananas morsels and krampus spawns.  This takes a little more time having to make a trip to the volcano for ashy turf and coffee plants.
