BunnyBait
After playing for over 30 hours of SW I'm looking to share my feedback and see if I'm missing anything with my problems with the DLC as it stands now without being done. Early game : Starting island should be more interesting, as it is we leave as soon as we can without bothering coming back (We might once if you can't make a hammer yet). But it isn't a special island, we will find many more just like it. The starting zone should be more like a group of small islands close from each other with enough to prepare us to explore the world. Seasons : Please make sandbag usefull or give us something to erase puddle, I just don't bother anymore. Poison Moskitos aren't hard to deal with and the possible lack of machines is more annoying that anything. Volcano eruptions are now a joke. They were too much before and now are too sparse. Make them drop DST Meteors-like boulders to compensate. Poison : Poison is not a threat to anyone who already have played SW for more than one hour. It's easy to avoid and it's debuffs shouldn't be so low. Either make it hard to avoid or make it more punishing. In this state it's easy to avoid, easy to get rid of and barely punishing. At the very least by making it more potent it gives reasons for people to cry about it. Snakes are ridiculously easy, their attack range is nonexistent, so is their damage output. They aren't even enough of them to justify it. Factor in the rarity of Poison Snakes and you should never get poison from them. Why even have two versions of them ? Only Poison Snake will make them more dangerous, and also help reducing the quantity of Snakeskins. Poison Spiders should never even appear if you are doing it right, traps still exist anyway if you can't avoid them. They are good as a way to punish the reckless. Poison Moskitos are almost only in Monsoon Season, they should be more silent so they can actually sneak up on us while we are distracted by something else. As they are they are way too loud from afar to be sneak up on. Seashell Suit nullify those "threaths". Made out of easy to gather materials and only at Science Machine levels and last longer than a Log Suit. Poisonous Hole should also release their gaz after being dug up. Making them a last resort adventure into a dangerous Marsh to cure yourself. Stink Rays, easy to avoid and flew from, and aren't easy to find in the early days. (Do they even appear until XX days have passed ?) Gas Mask is alright, it does its job and is almost expensive at least in time. (Shovel, Machete, Fighting/Traw Net requiered) Monsters : Snakes aren't the worthy Spider counterpart they should be. They aren't dangerous in numbers, they don't evolve over time and they don't have a boss (yet ?). I guess Water Beefalo will have a use later on, right know maybe they might be useful if you really want to go against Sea Hounds instead of the much easier Hounds. Floaty Boaty Knight are punching bag droping needlessly too many gears and respawn way too fast. I love to hate Monkeys, but they feel too easy at giving you lots of manure and sanity you up right away with a few foods items. Maybe they should have a chance to poison you with it ? Swordfish are hard to find but worth it for the Cutlass Supreme. Once you found them you shouldn't be able to farm them like that, their spawn rate is too quick. You can farm them while trawling without downside. Doydoy <3, make them drop every 10+ days a feather (increase with the amount of Doydoy in the World) but have them eat everything in chest too. Please don't let them become the second useless monster we can raise. Boats : We should be able to make a new boat at Shadow Manipulator levels with Shark Grills. Between Armored Boat and Row Boat for its durability but faster. End game boats arrives too fast and aren't that "endgame". Sails : Thatch Sail is a good early Sail that does what it should, not that fast and doesn't last long. Snakeskin Sail, this will be your main sail. You should have a lot of Snakeskins, and Logs and Grass are easy and fast to get. Slightly faster and last twice as long. The other sails don't give you anything worthwhile of their cost. It should be made at Piratihatitator or more expensive. Cloth Sail, why does it still exist ? It serves no purpose, it's barely faster and last less while taking a lot more time and ressources to make. You are not fast enough to kite Sea Hounds with it, so why bother ? Make it so we can accelerate faster with it making it possible to kite Sea Hounds with it. Feather Lite Sail is extremely expensive, doesn't last long and still not fast enough to kite Sea Hounds. Make it Shadow Manipulator in exchange for more durability and the ability to kite Sea Hounds. Light : I love the Obsidian Fire Pit, but it should be more than a reskin fire pit. Make it more expensive and add Limestone. Bioluminescence should respawn or at the very least be given instead of Boat Lantern by the Yaarctopus. Having a lot of 0% Boat Lanterns laying shouldn't be a thing. Maybe we could give Yaarctopus our empty lanterns + food to have them refilled ? Armor : Seashell Suit is way too good, easy to make, last a long time and absorb a lot of damage. Log Suit is pointless next to it. Reduce its durability and it's damage absorbtion. It should not be our main armor but our contact poison armor. Limestone Suit, the sanity gain feels weird and the armor feels underpowered to be affected by a -25% movement speed. It should be a sligthy less protective Marble Suit to compensate for the sanity gain. Weapons : Speargun, holy crap that thing is overpowered. Reskined Blow Dart but cheap as hell. Blow Darts are irrelevant next to it. Given they are mabe with a Jellyfish they should electrocute and stun for a few seconds on water only. That way they serve a new use against Sea Hound waves. Poison Speargun, too damaging on hit, making the poison side irrelevant. Go hand in hand with how weak the poison is. Clothes : Blubber Suit, Sleek Hat, Captain Hat all don't give any bonuses that outweigh the low durability. They could last twice as long and still be worthless. Unlike those, the Pirate Hat is powerful but doesn't last long. Could be a bit more expensive. Life Jacket, too cheap for a sea only meat effigy which it's only downside is the lack of hazard protection. Tools : Spyglass, too expensive for such a limited use and early game use. Save your Pig Skin and Gold for better things. Its only use is to make the Super Spyglass. Food : Ice Maker 3000 is broken. Ice was already a problem for balance in RoG, it's worse here. Ice as a filler should always give a chance to make Wet Goop. 1 Ice 5%, 2 Ice 25%, 3 Ice 75%, recipes where Ice is required are excluded. We have enough filler as it is, ice shouldn't be our only source for filler. Monster Meat ruins any new SW recipes it can be part off. Surf 'n' Turf are made with 3 Limpets and 1 Monster Meat, that's insane for how easy it is to make. Any Monster Meat should give 50% to have the "fish monster lasagna". Characters : Walani is a joke. Make her be able to make better Surfboard, past a few days she has no purpose over any other characters. Warly fails at being the best SW nomad character. His Chef Pouch is more harmful than anything, you cut yourself from having a backpack (and space inventory is more problematic in SW than in RoG). So without it you are left with the Portable Crock Pot. It's is nice but unnecessary. You are either left giving up one of his perks while still having his food requirements or suffer from the lack of space inventory. Please make his Chef Pouch a hat, less hazard protection for more space inventory isn't overpowered. The Pouch isn't that helpful. Wickerbottom is the best nomad character, unlike Warly she has 5 more inventory slots. Has access to Alchemy Engine with only 1 gold. Making it easy to have access to the best boat and sails. And she doesn't have to stop to cook stuff to eat. WX-78 is more overpowered than anything in the game combined. Gears are so easy and quick to gather in big quantities that it can be your main diet. You are immune to poison. And to top it off System Overload works on boat too ! Oh yeah I forgot to say anything about rain damage, to be fair it's not noticeable. Even though I'm wet all the time. mksu
Actually, you can make Surf 'n' Turf with 100% chance with 2 limpets and 2 monster meat. Crazy right. oCrapaCreeper
The chef pouch is more useful when you don't actually use it like a backpack. Think of it more like a really cheap icebox you can craft on the go. For instance, if you have a bunch of food on you that you don't want to waste, you could simply craft a pouch, drop it on the ground, and put the food in it, you don't need to wear it. More convenient and takes less resources than using an icebox. Usually I'll drop the chef pouch as soon as I get a normal backpack, and then craft another one later to serve as an icebox when I make a camp. You can also wall 2 doydoys in 2 screens away from your base and you will have 18 doydoys after 50 days, maybe more. Please make his Chef Pouch a hat, less hazard protection for more space inventory isn't overpowered. The Pouch isn't that helpful. (Only quoting things i have an opinion about/ stands out & bolding key words to be slightly organized.) Starting islands is just a game of luck, for me at least. Either i get a small boring island that, like you said, i never go back to unless i need to hammer down the debris for a repair kit or to get the crates. Or I'll get an island that is fairly large, has spiders, berry bushes, and tons of limpet rocks, in which case i usually end up making it my base. Starting islands always give you enough to start with and let's be honest, how many of your islands do you go to once and never head back to? Probably a few (unless you need a place to crash for the night). Meteors should just be rebalanced to something in between the two updates. I don't understand having to "compensate" for it because it was meant to kill you, not give you some sort of benefit. The DST meteors usually drop boulders which you could mine for rocks, flint, and moon rocks, if i remember correctly, and for the most part that isn't needed in SW. I like the feather idea with Doydoys but don't quite understand how they'd get into the chest. They can eat things out of crock pots because once it finishes cooking, it's exposed and out in the open. But with a chest they'd have to be able to open it which seems a little too much. I agree that there should be a better boat but I'm not sure how shark gills will fit into making one? And i don't think anything is "endgame" when the game isn't even finished -shrugs- I use cloth sails just because i like the way they look and the slight speed, if they were a bit faster than a snakeskin sail it would be better but there can't be two sails that let you kite sharks. So maybe just give that benefit to the feather lite sail. Adding more materials to the obsidian fire pit doesn't stop it from being a reskin of the original. Maybe it could also burn brighter or longer since it's made of obsidian? A log suit is never the best armor so i don't quite understand the need to nerf the seashell suit. A lot of weapons/armor will pale in comparison to something else and it differs between different people and their play style. Isn't the pirate hat almost the best balance compared to the others? It does pretty great things but doesn't last long forcing you to make another. Not sure if it needs to be more expensive, at least not right now. Personally, i never actually wear my life jacket even when I'm sailing (I would if i was about to sink from an attack). But the point of it, i think, is that it takes the slot of your backpack which means you probably won't have the life jacket on for no reason. And honestly how often are you in a position of drowning? Surf & turf doesn't do much for hunger and i only make 2 at most for when i need healing or sanity. Monster meat is a great meat filler for any recipe and it's honestly the core of how i usually survive (especially with wigfrid). With that logic shouldn't we just up the chances of monster lasagna throughout all recipes that use monster meat? Like someone else had mentioned, i primarily use the chef's pouch as a cheap, early ice box or something i can take on the go when I'm gathering perishable things at sea (or another island). Though, when he was first introduced with the patch, i did think that his chef's pouch would be more of a hat but i think having it be a backpack-like item is fine.
