Kammellion
Greetings Ladies and Gents, my name is Kammellion and together with a friend I recently started playing Don't Starve Together. We both had not prior knowledge on this game, nor the Don't Starve Together base game. So there was death and fun all over. Me and my friend recorded three episodes of this game for a YouTube channel, the episodes will launch in the first week of February. Because of our bad ass failure, next time another friend of mine will join us who has lots of experience (we hope... we trust her...). Eitherway, before we dive back into the depths, what kind of advice could you guys give me/us on playing this game with 2 to 3 people? Which characters to pick, what to build first, what is important in life? Thank you, Kammellion EDIT: For those interested, this is a link to the channel https://www.youtube.com/c/Kammellion Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/62992-dont-starve-together-with-friends/ Share on other sites
Asparagus
Hi 7 hours ago, Kammellion said: Which characters to pick Spoiler Personal preference for a team of 3 with varying skill levels: A Wendy is love O__O (deals less damage; drains less sanity; summons the ghost of her twin sister, who gets stronger the darker it is; is good against groups of mobs, not so with bosses) Well, Wilson is the backbone of every beginner's quest. With his ability to build Resurrection Statues, people who tend to die a lot can benefit from this... Wigfrid - great in combat, has 25% passive damage resistance, gains sanity and health when attacking enemies, can make relatively cheap but excellent battle helm and spear... needs meat Wickerbottom, can passively craft items at a science machine level; is a magical old lady that can summon things from birds to lightning Wolfgang - the muscle of the team, gets stronger the fuller he is... drains sanity faster from monsters and darkness... WX and Wes... not for beginners in DST in my opinion... sorry if I'm wrong on this... Webber, can befried spiders... is hunted by pigs O__O Willow... great for scouting... can cook things with her lighter... keep her sanity up though... stay near fires, but her Teddy Bear can distract Nightmares so yeah So for me... I'd go with Wendy (cus bae O//////O lol jk), Willow, and either Wilson, Wicker, or Wigfrid. 7 hours ago, Kammellion said: what to build first Spoiler Pickaxe - most people go for the axe for wood, but with a team of 3, flint gets used up quick, so the trick is, make a pickaxe, and find rocks, where you can get more flint... depending on your play style, like splitting up (more efficient) or staying together (good for recording as all players are mostly present on screen), resource management is key... make a torch, if you don't get logs by day 1 because of this. Science machine - make sure you have lots of grass and twigs for the next one... (next line) Backpack - inventory space. needs grass and twigs... I personally store my resources in my backpack and tools in the first 5 slots for the hotkey, then proceed to make a SHOVEL (to dig up stumps; 1 full size tree = 4 logs = 1 board(s)) and get 2 pinecone/birchnut), ROPE (x3), SPEAR, LOG SUIT. <--- essentials From there, you can just use your instincts and imaginations. good luck Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/62992-dont-starve-together-with-friends/#findComment-712139 Share on other sites

Snowhusky5
Characters: Spoiler Wilson - has an easier time in winter because his beard keeps him warm, and can shave it to get beard hair easier than other characters, which is used for meat effigies, which will resurrect you if necessary. No downsides, is good for new players. Wendy - has lower sanity drain from darkness, monsters, and can summon a friendly ghost Abigail (drop the flower when it's grown and kill something near it), which will kill entire spiders nests for you with no trouble. Has 25% lower damage, is good for new players. Willow - has a sweet lighter, which you can cook food on. Is good for early exploration. Has a teddy bear which can help you when insane. Has lower max sanity, freezes when insane, is good for new players Wolfgang - has high max hp and hunger, deals more damage and has even higher hp when satiated, but is weaker when starving. Gets hungry faster. Not recommended for new players because he uses a lot of food, although he does make combat easier if you do have food. WX-78 - charged by lightning, damaged by rain. Can eat stale food with no penalties, and gears for huge regen of all 3 stats and boosts to maximums. Loses 1/2-2/3 of used gears on death, starts with slightly below average stats. Not recommended for new players because gears are hard to come by and new players tend to die often. Wickerbottom - can craft science machine items anytime, alchemy machine items with only a science machine. Higher max sanity, can craft magic books. Hates eating stale food, can't sleep. Not recommended for super-new players, but can be great in early game and with books if you know what you are doing, since she can craft backpack, shovel, spear, etc right off the bat. Woodie - can chop trees faster, has permanent axe, gains sanity from planting pinecones. If you chop too many trees or during full moons, you turn into a werebeaver. Not recommended for new players, since werebeaver drops your items and sets your stats to low values. Wes - is a challenge mode character. Can blow balloons for sanity. Don't play him. Wigfrid - starts with and crafts helmet and better spear, which can be given to friends. Deals 25% more damage, regens hp and sanity while in combat. Can only eat meat. Good for new players, just make sure to get plenty of meat - don't rely on rabbits, hunt koalefants, tallbirds, werepigs - and combat will be a breeze. Webber - can befriend spiders, can eat monster meat with no penalties, but pigs are hostile. Not recommended for new players, since pigs are a great resource to set up near normally. Tips: Spoiler For the first 3-5 days, explore the world to find the best spot to set up base. Don't stop during the night, just craft a torch and keep running. Gather grass, twigs, flint, gold, anything you come across. A good base location is usually between 2 or 3 different biomes. Being close to pigs/pig king and/or beefalo is good as well. Nearby wormholes and sinkholes (if playing a dedicated server with caves) are also good. If you come across a special location, such as a pig village with a bunch of cultivated berry bushes, it is good to set up nearby to take advantage of those resources. Naturally-occurring berry bushes grow berries faster than transplanted ones, and don't need to be fertilized. Once you have a base set up, the following structures are key: Spoiler Science Machine/Alchemy Engine - is needed for prototyping most things. Note that after crafting an item once, you can craft it again anywhere; these machines are to learn recipes, unlike crafting stations in Terraria for example. Fire Pit - a permanent fire location, is needed to survive the night, is more efficient than regular fire. Crock Pot - turn your food into better food. For example, 1 meat or monster meat and 3 of anything else makes meatballs, which give ~70 hunger. Never use more than 1 monster meat in a recipe. Look up a guide to see more recipes, there are a ton. Chest - store your junk. Ice Box - needs gears to make, but will double the time it takes for food to rot. Build this right next to your crockpots and you can shift+click food from the ice box into a crock pot when you have both open, it's very convenient. Other base structures will help later: Birdcage - once you have a bird in it, feed it meat to get eggs, which are good in many crock pot recipes. Cooked monster meat can also be made into eggs. You can also feed it fruits and vegetables to get specific seeds. Drying Rack - dries raw meat into jerky, which restores more hp and sanity. Great during winter, when fruits and vegetables are hard to come by. Prestihatitator/Shadow Manipulator - works like the Alchemy Engine, but for magic recipes. Basic/Improved Farm - plant seeds in these to get crops. Dragonfruit is best - 1 dragonfruit + 3 twigs/berries/ice in crockpot makes a great food. doesn't work in winter. Other notes: Spoiler Revival via Telltale Heart gives you a max hp penalty which is a little tricky to get rid of, so you might want to use a mod that eliminates that. Manure - you can get it from beefalo, or from pigs. Feed a pig 4 monster meat and he will turn into a werepig, then leave edible plants on the ground (petals and mushrooms are good, berries too) and he will eat them and make manure. Bees - if you make a beebox, make sure there are flowers around it. You can catch butterflies and 'plant' them to get new flowers; you need at least 6 to make honey. There is still a lot more to the game, but this should get you going pretty well. This game was designed in the roguelite fashion, so learning through experience and death is to be expected. It works better in the singleplayer version, which is why I wrote all these tips. Have fun! Mday
My advice, wear armor when you are in combat. Most new players die because they don't know how important this is. 1 Wigfrid in the team makes it very easy to craft battle helm for everyone. If you see pig heads, destroy it with a hammer and you get 2 pig skins. Usually a touch stone have 4 pig heads. That can gives you 8 pig skins in total. Make football helmet with pig skin instead of logsuit. You can wear it and your backpack at the same time, it cost 1 less rope (or 3 grass), just as good as a log suit, and save you time from getting that 8 logs. 8 pig skins can make 8 helmet so that is 64 logs and 24 grass saved. Kammellion
Wauw, so many tips. Thank you very much guys! Yes, the episodes me and my friend recorded are a lot of.... inconvenience since we have no idea what we are doing haha! Next time I'll read through all this again and will bring a veteran player so we'll be with three. Then we should be good. Also, for those interested, the first episode of Don't Starve Together will launch on the channel on February 4.
