Creeper_Spy1290
I think it would be a good, simple idea to uncap the fps in don't starve as well as don't starve together since it is 2016 and everybody can support higher refresh rates and higher fps. 60 is enough but 1000 is better. Mobbstar
@Creeper_Spy1290, I don't think "everybody" can do that until at least 2026. Besides, if the "better" option takes monitor lifespan as a factor, then it is likely not actually better. Not to mention the average human eye's FPS cap. Having said that, it'd be considerable as a toggle-able option, assuming the engine could handle it. oCrapaCreeper
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this game's frame limiter basically your refresh rate in a v-sync fashion? I.e if you have a 60hz moniter, your cap is 60, and if you have 144 hz, your cap is 144. I'm most likely misinformed. I know the game used to run at 30 FPS and was raised to 60 for the Steam version, so I may be wrong and it's just a set 60. MikeyMusic
I'm willing to wager that 1000 is not better than 60. As mentioned, you hit a certain point where your brain can't tell the difference anymore, so you're really asking your computer to spend more energy than it needs to. 10 hours ago, Mobbstar said: assuming the engine could handle it. Riffing off of this, I know some games have a certain level of synchronization/dependency between the rate at which graphical 'steps' are taken and the rate at which the actual program 'steps' are taken. I don't know if DS has this dependency at any level, but if it does you can probably suppose that it means there is actually a real cap on the FPS. It might be well above 60, but if it exists then there's really nothing that can be done (without affecting speed/processing of gameplay itself) to really remove the hard cap on framerate. I know there are definitely some games out there that suffer in crazy ways when you go beyond the FPS cap. Also, a matter of opinion, but I really think anything above 50-70 fps is difficult to detect, depending on the game. Visuals in that range are already so fluid, and given that the visuals in DS itself are largely animated by hand, 1000fps wouldn't make a huge difference in that regard either.
