Palmtrees basicly strike me like Birchnuttrees where i rarely chop them down because they aren't nearly as good as other Trees (even if the Jungle ones can drop snakes on your head). So you'r better of Farming Jungletrees for wood. I wouldn't recommend farming them for food as they don't drop that many wood (3 logs when dug) and may spawn very dangerous palm treeguards.
