Creature Rarities: Your Thoughts?

Do These Guys Need to be Seen More?

  1. 1. Should tallbirds be more common?

    • Yes, they're a great source of food and potential allies (also, their homes have a chance of burning)
      2
    • No, because of the mentioned reasons in "Yes"

    • If there are to be more of them, buff them

  2. 2. What about catcoons? Should we see more of them?

    • Yes, they have limited lives, aren't really essential, and make fine company
      1
    • No, they'll take up space because they're not important
      3
    • Just make them better hunters again. It'll balance out the rarity

  3. 3. Would it be fine if volt goats weren't so sparse?

    • Yes, because they make a good source of meat
      2
    • No, because they make a good source of meat

    • Yes, but volt goats should look out for each other (like beefalo)

    • Just make herding volt goats possible/more easy

I really enjoy discussing the mechanics of Don't Starve with others, and I'm curious about what you guys think about certain creature rarities. Have you noticed that sometimes, worlds can be completely devoid of tallbirds, catcoons, and/or volt goats? What're your thoughts on the spawn rate/chance of these creatures? Should we have at least 1 of each per world, or does the lack of these guys make a world unique? Feel free to also state other rare creatures you'd like to be more common (more mandrakes might be overpowered).

P.S. Don't tell me about the sandbox options, I'm only referring to default worlds.

How are catcoons "not really essential"? I don't need tallbird eggs to survive either. Morning star and milk are luxury too.

I don't think catcoons should be more common, they should just... be something. Right now they're jumping meat reserves that don't reproduce indefinitely. Even when I wanted to try out the cat hat, I couldn't get any of their tails. They were so easy to kill, it convinced me that the hat wouldn't be worth it either.

Tentacles are quite rare if you ask me. I always set them to "more" and am fine walking in a swamp.

I don't think we need to bring up the topic of Krampus again, do we? Oh woopsie! :p

Well, I never really kill catcoons much. We can get easier food anywhere else and without killing anything.

I myself am quite comfortable with the amount of tentacles that spawn in a swamp. You might just be having bad luck (or good luck if you don't wanna be attacked) in worlds with default settings.

Topic of Krampus? It's because catcoons are very innnocent, right? You don't have to reply to this one if it's a bad thing.
