Zero sanity

Recommended Posts

Another suggestion incoming, this time: When sanity hits the bottom zero.

When hitting lowest point of sanity, i kinda expect pretty damn crazy stuff to happen to you and your surroundings. That's why i would suggest adding things like False giant alarms, disoriented stats, mixed up controls and having items in inventory that make no sense what so ever (example having tallbird in your backpack.)

After all, you're having absolute zero sanity, you should be completely fubar on headcase.

Also had suggestion for new "giant"; when you keep sanity on zero long enough, giant shadow starts to stalk you and attack you, keeping your sanity zero, till you beat him or avoid him long enough. (shadow giant would have his own unique loot drop, just like rest have (deerclop got eyeball, bearger got thick fur etc.))

I love this idea and think it would be great to change your entire environment. However, the giant would be a very tough challenge, and maybe too tough, if it is anything like Deerclops or the other giants. But no doubt making the zero sanity punishment more apparent would be an amazing thing to see

Doesn't need to necessary make sanity more harder, but more crazy stuff overall. Would love if suddenly full grown tall bird popped out your pocket and suddenly disappear.

If something punishing, and somewhat fair idea, i would do that longer you are in extremely low (7,5% -0%) sanity, it slowly starts to drain your max sanity away, only way to recover it to use Booster kind of item (Like Booster for max health after you have resurrected by telltale heart)

When you manage to reach 0 sanity, items will change more and you get faster hungry. For example you see a planted carrot on the ground. You take it and eat it. But actually it was a rock, which damages you on consuming and makes you slower. You see the other players as very big vegetables and fruits. When you play Wigfrid you them as pigs, spiders, hounds,....

Wait, you're already imagining shadow monsters, you're already imagining them attacking you, and your mind is even so impregnated with this insanity that you actually physically hurt when you imagine them hitting you.

If that doesn't qualify as "completely fubar on headcase", I don't see why any other proposal would.

Whilst I think some of the suggestions are too prone to frustration (controls mixing up while insane during a boss fight etc.), I DO very much like the idea of having false audio cues when at 0 sanity.

As many of us know audio cues are vital to survival, especially in the dark. I've survived Vargs in the dark only because I heard them sleeping and was extra careful about where I went. And I'm sure we've all experienced the horror of being on day 2 with nothing but a torch and hearing a tallbird wake up somewhere close by. Not to mention the cry of terrorbeaks when at 5hp.

It would make insanity so much more thrilling if we could get false sounds for werepigs transforming, telelocator staffs being used, tentacles spawning, freezing, structures being hammered, panflute being used etc.

In fact one could probably even mod this now.

There is a really neat hallucinations mod for DS, but it hasn't been ported to DST to my knowledge.  Hallucinations appear at rather high sanity, though, and are random monsters coming to attack you, and when at low sanity, you come.
