TheRebelFlesh
I have been encountering WAY too many Sea Hounds as of late. It seems as though they spawn whenever I kill anything at sea. Fishing at a shoal? Sea hound. Catch a jellyfish? Sea hound. Pop a whale carcass (that's already dead, I might add)? Pack of three sea hounds. It's starting to get frustrating! I never have a problem with actual hounds because I have a couple seconds to prepare. Put on armor, equip weapon, and wait. But Sea Hounds spawn with zero warning, they just show up. Last attack, my boat was at about 100. Perfectly fine for a quick jaunt to pop a whale and bring the loot back to my base. Once I do that a pack of three comes after me and kills me because I wasn't able to kite them properly and because I didn't have a chance to equip a life jacket. I was at full health. If the attack had happened at land, I wouldn't have even come close to dying. But I just lost a game that was going so well. I think that Sea Hounds should actually give warnings. Like, y'know hounds? Hounds never spawned out of nowhere! But apparently these stupid sharks can. Does anyone else think this needs a little tweak? Or do you guys have any tips for fighting sea hounds? Talavaj
Any meat (except monster meat) dropped into the sea has chance to spawn a hound, while fishing has a 20% chance to spawn one. It's just one hound, it's not really hard to deal with.If it's multiple and you can't deal with them... why not just run away ? First off, it's a bit difficult to run away when three come at me all at once from three different directions. I've already had to run away on multiple occasions, and it doesn't stop being a problem. I suppose I'm just not happy with the idea of being punished for using the ocean as a food source, which seems to be one of the points of this expansion. Too me it's like...if pulling up a carrot had the chance to spawn a hound in RoG. Maybe this makes more "sense" (I get why the Sea Hounds would be attracted to meat) but it doesn't mean it's not frustrating. GalloViking
The only advice I have is to keep a handful of spearguns. You never know when sea hounds will spawn, so you have to be prepaired for anything. Talavaj
I suppose they made the fishing like so because Shoals are quite plentiful and a rather OP source of food.Jellyfish you can catch by using a bug net to prevent Hounds attacking you while the Whale was quite unlucky I would say, to get three hounds from just the few meats is quite unlikely. I personally don't really mind it. The sea does not have many threats anyway, just carry a couple Spearguns and/or an Ice Staff to get rid of them.I also like it because of the Shark soup which is a great healing item and a way to spawn Krampus easily. Mr.Mulk
Along with what has been stated above, I would also recommend several things:Always have a life jacketAlways have 1-2 boat repair kitsAlways have at least a weaponFinally, know your map's location of stink rays, they are excellent for removing unwanted sea hounds as the stink rays and sea hounds will quickly begin a fight (in the sake of safety have at least one anti-venom) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/61621-sea-hounds-spawn-way-too-often/#findComment-703696 Share on other sites

I died because I was attacked without warning by three Sea Hounds. My boat was far from being fully repaired, but it was hardly falling apart. I didn't even have time to equip the life jacket because they all attacked at once and sunk my boat. Maybe they could do a little less damage to boats? I could've handled them easily if they hadn't sunken my boat. cstmarc
I don't think sea hounds are too many. One by one or even two by two, with a wooden boat in good condition, they are easy to kill. And run away up to the next island to kill them at land works well. Good idea to have a spearguns reserve ! I will also try this ! DeputyDeath
I'm okay with sea hounds but some sort of nerf would be nice, because currently they are WAY more difficult to kill than terrestrial hounds unless you use the method where you lure them to land so that they're stuck. The main issue is that they target your boat as well as you. If you stop to fight them usually you'll end up stunlocked and your boat will be destroyed. Urfable
I don't recall sea hounds doing That much damage to boats? There are a few times i had to fight them at sea and i managed pretty well.If you're having troubles just be really prepared and make sure your boat is fairly healthy (more than half of max durability) and keep everything important in a slot that is easy for you to get to. For example, i keep my life jacket and the sort in my backpack so i always know where it is and can equip it in a second. giodelmar
And if you lure and kite the sea hounds/sharks near the shore - Floaty Boaty Knights appear the next day after you kill the sea hounds/sharks If you then kill the knights - they will spawn again the next day lol. Knights should not appear near shore or at least they should not respawn on shallow / shore after you kill them. A friend of mine literally has Knights around his base island because he kept kiting sea hounds using the shore every attack lol Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/61621-sea-hounds-spawn-way-too-often/#findComment-704315 Share on other sites
