StretchVanb
Okay. So shipwrecked has some balance issues... Really BIG balance issues. A thread is going on the warranted me to post this...The thread is called Casuals Are Ruining this Game. I have started this thread to warrant hopefully productive conversation, and gather ideas. That's right, this is a suggestion thread. Get your Brains of Thought together and get those creative juices flowing! Allow me to give you the rules...1. The words "Hard and Easy" do not exist in this thread, only balance, which refers to the... Well, balance, of difficulty. This ties into this...2. No flaming! This is a must. Do NOT argue whatsoever in this thread. Save it for the PM's!3. No name calling! If you mean it lightly... That's okay. But if you are insulting someone because of a idea, this ties into...4. The final rule. All ideas are welcome and judged by BALANCE, not challenge nor easiness.Do not flame over someone else's opinion! That is a must!Think away! Codsworth
Well 2 things 1st They should buff the boat torch, too expensive, is almost useless right now, even more if playing as Walani. 2nd Increse the hunger value and reduce the healing from Surf`n` Turf. Having an healing item in crockpot is an awesome Idea but 60 for something quite easy to make... well kinda strong if you ask me Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/61364-ideas-for-balancing-and-gameplay-bosses/#findComment-701899 Share on other sites

SirBuizelton
Oh and the sponges! we need the sponges Woo! I agree. (I also agree with what you said earlier and I love this thread already) I feel like they need to be something that truly requires a bit of effort, yet I don't entirely love the idea of it being a random thing from the trawl net. If we have diving added to the game it could definitely be a big reason to go down there in the first place, but I'm feeling like the chances of that really happening are pretty iffy, unfortunately. Anyway! Right now I'd say that it's a coral reef exclusive trawl net item (for lack of better way of acquiring them) and perhaps it'll be a material, requiring you to get a bunch of them in order to make things that are useful (I.E, mop or armor or whatever) Yes? No? Maybe? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/61364-ideas-for-balancing-and-gameplay-bosses/#findComment-701911 Share on other sites
DangWoodchuck
I have a bunch of ideas and questions, so I'm going to try to sum up the main points. Feel free to comment on how you feel about each one. SUGGESTIONS: First, what we need is a terror beak of the sea. Anyway... The Kraken? I have an idea for a boss in the ocean... maybe a giant squid? It'd be like fighting a birch tree guard, but it's mobile. I'm not sure what the requirements for it to spawn would be, but basically, it's like fighting a creature controlling 6 tentacles (like the ones in the marsh) at sea. Anyone else who has ideas for bosses? I'm interested in Don't Starve combat. Ocean Kiting About ocean combat, it's much harder to kite enemies, because there's a delay between moving and stopping. This may be me asking too much, but Klei should make it easier to kite enemies at sea (especially water beefalo). Baby Water Beefalo and Water Beefalo Herding (Plus Telelocation) I'm pretty sure this mechanic will be added in the future, but water beefalo need a way to reproduce. As for herding, we should be able to craft telelocator staffs and focuses to herd these guys for easier farming (then again, this might be too OP). As for telelocation, why has it not been implemented yet? I guess it's because one might end up in an island without the resources to make a boat, I guess? Feel free to tell what you think should be done to move around this problem. Whirlpools? These might function like one-time electric isosceles's. It might also hurt when one gets caught up in one. They'd suck you in, take you somewhere random, and disappear. More Magic? I find many that many of the magic tools in Don't Starve aren't present in Shipwrecked (again, telelocation). It'd be nice if Shipwrecked offered more exclusive magic, like a sail that makes your boat faster depending on your sanity level, or a staff that creates tidal waves (that actually hurts your targets). More Biomes? The biomes in Shipwrecked feel just a tad bit repetitive. It'd be nice if we were given more environments to explore, like... I don't know, help me out on this one. QUESTIONS (and POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS): Masochist for Flame Tools? I'm just curious as to why one should make a fire tool. I get fire weapons, but how can one chop bamboo without burning it with a fiery machete? Can anyone tell me what uses a fiery machete has? I'd like to know. Slot Machine + Maxwell = Endless Benefits? I've been playing as Maxwell for Shipwrecked, and the sanity drain from the slot machines is no match for Maxwell's psyche! Should there be a personal balance for Maxwell when he gambles? Maybe he can be the most unlucky? Then again, it is Maxwell we're talking about, because when we're getting passed the low health, he makes for a pretty formidable character. Dark Sword Rendered Useless? With the addition of the cutlass supreme, arguably the best weapon of the game, is the dark sword just obsolete now? Once one finds a swordfish, they've found where they live, and they respawn a day after one's dead. To fix this, maybe swordfishes have no specific home, and you'll just find one randomly around the ocean. It'd make the weapon a bit more balanced. StretchVanb
All of your guys ideas are great! Keep em coming people! Let me add some First, seasonal bosses(i.e.: giants). I think the Kraken idea works perfectly for monsoon season. Maybe with a few buffs... basically, i thought maybe at all seasons, there would be a boss. You would be awarded in a tiny bit more of a fashion then the giants, because they would be very... very... difficult(yes i know i said no talking about easy or difficult. I don't know how else to describe it.)After you beat it, you would alleviate the negative effects of the season temporarily. For like 3 days or so. They would also drop something that helps to survive in the current season. Second, Volcanos need a buff/nerf. i say both because right now the volcano season is very unbalanced. Most people are saying it is either too easy or too hard, but we want balance in this thread, do we not? I think they increase the meteor's damage slightly(2-3 hit ko without armor, but the speed shouldnot be increased), and add the seasonal bosses, so we could temporarily appease a fire boss or something(by killing him >)and temporarily give us time to prepare up some food and materials.I'm thinking the bosses would have to be stationary, and t hey would spawn instantly at the start of the season: sort of like MacTusk. So you could run across there arenas first, and come back to them later on there season. All of the arenas should be grouped together and relatively close to the starting island in generation. Stalker2400
We need an enemy like a crocodile or something that can chase you in land they should spawn near mangrove i guess, and it should drop big meat and maybe scales that let you make scale armor or scale chest that has more space. HeilerderWelten
Hi Kleis, Capys and Forum Members ^^ I will just throw some ideas in for balance issues or suggestions for new stuff, some ideas are mine, some are great ideas of other members. Gas Mask - it would be great if the ash clouds/fog in volcano season would drain your sanity or health- using the Gas Mask would prevent that drain and you have to adjust your playstyle, because you have to sacrifice your head slot in volcano season for the Gas Mask,or the ash fog will damage you, you can also see more in the ash fog with the Gas Mask - by "locking" down your head slot you have to decide:if you use a bagpack over a log suitif you use an umbrella over a floral shirt (because you want probally use a log suit or bagpack)or if you just take the damage from the ash fog (sanity or health drain)and use your dumbrella/ice cube and bagpack/logsuit combo - that would give the volcano season some kind of wasteland atmosphere, where you have to fillter your air Clock-o-dile - the Clock-o-dile would be a clockwork monster that spawns in mangrove bioms- it drops gears and probably as a rare drop a clock, that could be a trinket for the Yaarctopus- it is neutral to waterbeefalo but not to the player Sponge - sucks up puddles in monsoon season, has 8-10 uses before it has full wetness and can´t suck up more water- can be dried on Drying Racks, to use the sponge again for sucking up water- can be found as a drop in the trawl net (deep sea) Food Values - adjusting hunger/health/sanity values of crockpot dishes- food is quiet plentiful in SW, but so it was in ROG and Vanilla, food like meatballs, surf n turf, bacon and eggs, dragon pie, bisque, banana popare overshadowing other recipes like:froggle bunwich, kabobs, pierogi, butter muffins, flower salad, fruit medly, lobster dinner, etc. - meatballs have an insanely high food value and you only need 1 monster meat and 3 ice(or 4 monster meat, because you can make eggs from them with a bird)- twigs and ice as filler should only be allowed, if it makes sense in a recipe, cold dishes can have ice as filler, stuff like meatballs not Mob Health/Attacks - creatures like palm tree guards, whales, etc. have to low health to be a real thread- clockwork boats have no melee attack, that makes fights against them not very entertaining, they are to little of a thread at the moment, maybe they can use a cannon shot in your face(similiar to bishops) if you are near them for to long Buoy - crafting Buoys to mark spots on the map (items you droped, teleporters, mobs, etc.)- updrading a buoy with a bottle lantern to illuminate the sea in that area (you have to refill the bottle lantern) Lava Puddles - lava will flow slow from the fire holes in the magma biom when volcano season starts- it will expand slower than water puddles in monsoon season, but the lava will burn anything down in its way, except minerals, stone walls, thulecite walls and lime walls- when calm season starts the lava will cool down and there will be magma piles on the fire holes again- if you dont dug up the magma piles, no lava will flow- you can stop the lava with stone walls, lime walls, etc.- tallbirds will go in the shallow water when the lava flows to there nests, they will make new nests in calm season- you can get obsidian from the eruptions in volcano season(the fire holes will spit out obsidian from time to time) Sail Surfboard for Walani - Walani will start with her normal surfboard, but she can craft a special board later, that she can combine with a sail- the "special" board is locked behind the alchemy engine and harder to craft than her standard board- you can combine it with any sail in the game (but it has no item slots or a lantern slot)- it is as fast as the armored boat, but gets a higher speed boast from waves- it has very low durabilty, but it doesn't loose durability over time like other boats- you can put it in your pockets, like the standard surf board Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/61364-ideas-for-balancing-and-gameplay-bosses/#findComment-702077 Share on other sites

Rlyehian
Ocean Kiting About ocean combat, it's much harder to kite enemies, because there's a delay between moving and stopping. This may be me asking too much, but Klei should make it easier to kite enemies at sea (especially water beefalo). Kiting is simply different in water, not impossible though. A few strategies I have found: Whales: If you simply go full speed past them, it will trigger the attack animation, you can then turn around, get 3 attacks in and leave before i resets. You then do another drive-by at full speed, and repeat. It guarantees you no damage form the whale or its waves (since they go in a different direction that you will be)Sharx and Beefalo: Honestly, I usually just switch gears (go to land for sharx and water for beefalo). Both creatures will follow you to the edge of an island, and you can then easily kill them with ranged weapons, taking your time.Swordfish: Just take the hits? haven't found a great way to kill them without any damage as they won't follow you all the way to an island. I actually managed to kite the swordfish. Let it follow you for a while till you are full speed, then slow down a bit so it can attack (but not harm you). Then in the same direction, keep sailing till full speed, then press "F". This will turn you backwards but at full speed (THIS COULD BE A BUG: turning 180 degrees or other angles should not reserve full speed in the first place). Just after you hit once, turn back in the original direction, and repeat the above. You will have to repeat 4 times. Last time, just keep hitting since it attacks you after 3 hits, but then it is already dead (if you were using a spear). With a cutlass supreme already, just kite once, then tank (2 hits) and you have another cutlass supreme (if you had enough gold). hyiltiz
Yes, the swordfish is a VERY easy meal, and you make the dark sword futile; from the shadow manipulator (esp. playing as Waxwell), dark sword and night armor are a must. However, now I only use dark sword to help maintain Waxwell's sanity low so that I can farm nightmare fuels, but not for fighting, just holding the dark sword. Almost all other unlockables from the shadow manipulaor are cool stuff that you can live without, even as Waxwell. So now shadow manipulator is becoming very close to useless, since you can still use log suit, and you have more than a dozen way to get your health back, like by eating 60+ HP stuff. So, it is basically saying no magic in Shipwreck, which would be a shame. With bosses, it might change, but we take down most bosses by ice staff, which does NOT require shadow manipulator anyway. Flare2V
No flaming! This is a must. Do NOT argue whatsoever in this thread. Save it for the PM's! Argue- give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory, typically with the aim of persuading others to share one's view. How is this a bad thing? There's no point in discussing balance if we all share the exact same opinion at all times and don't bother to challenge each other's ideas. Just keep it respectful.
