Woodlegs perk discussion

Since the utterly disappointing perk Walani has I thought it would be fun to discuss possible perks Woodlegs could/should/would have.

 

here's my thoughts:

-Base stats 80 HP. 150 Sanity. 200 Hunger.

 

-Craftable Harpoon (this is my number 1 wish for woodlegs. If he just had this I'd still be happy)

 

-New boat to craft. One that takes less dmg from waves.

 

-Sanity boost while sailing

 

-25% speed boost from his woodlegs with them having a durability of sorts that need to be restored with wood

 

-Can make caged pats pirate parrots and have a 10% chance to give dubloons instead of egg when being fed

 

-Normally friendly mobs aggro him since hes a pirate.

 

What are some of your ideas?

Slower movement and sanity drain on land, faster movement in boats, sanity boost when sailing and digging up treasure, and starts with a spyglass/able to use spyglasses twice as many times as most characters, maybe he's able to actually craft super spyglasses? maybe a special craft able speargun only he can make? Just spitballing.

I don't want them integrating anymore early game perks. Spyglass would be useless later in the game. Just like Walani and her surf board.

well I mean it'd just be a nice little starting boost to get you going like wigfried and webber have. Plus being more efficient with spyglasses is actually extremely helpful in the early game for easier exploration and finding key things you're looking for in less time. I'd totally use this character for that trait, it's cool. The balance is in the fact that it's not helpful late game

i don't really want him to have saiing perks because then he won't be good in RoG... that's what I don't like with Walani.

 

But I loved the idea of making his peglegs have durability but increasing his movement speed.

 

 

Maybe he can't wear any hats except his own? This seems really bad though so he needs some kind of bonus.

i would rather see woodlegs as an more challanging, so I would like some downsides on him

that's why I suggested him being significantly slower on land and having constant sanity drain on land too. That'd be a pretty decent challenge I think.

the slow thing kinda agonizes me, although the sanity drain would be interesting  (but too bad on RoG) this thing of he only being able to wear his own hat is quite interesting tho, so he would have the benefits of and pirate hat but being unable to put any other (can make it quite harsh on winter)

only being able to wear a pirate hat is a horrible debuff and doesn't really make much sense imo.

I would like to see another transformation character. This time done right. Maybe woodlegs transform into a pirate ship when hes on the ocean for too long?

Well not now but you are going to be able to teleport between the two worlds. I'd imagine that you would be able to do that with the shipwrecked characters too, and if you could having sailing perks would be kind of boring wouldn't it?

I like to see character that has extra DMG with range weapons and low DMG with normal. IDK if this suits Woodlegs tho so maybe someone else and that one could craft harpoon

 

Another character that is like Wes - ultra weak and bad BUT have one OP perk like "instant grass/twigs pickup"

I think the best thing, in my opinion, that i think would be cool is the pirate hat be more expansive/last longer, and the pirate hat also has some defense. kind of like the Thulecite Suit but not nearly as good or expensive. His pirate hat would work alot like Wigfrids but with sanity gain.

I hate to say it but... "Just don't use them in RoG?" I mean, it's pretty hard to strike a good balance for a character that thrives/struggles in both SW and RoG. They're very different worlds. And if we wanted to take away SW specific bonuses just because they don't fit well in RoG, we'd be missing out on really cool opportunities imo.

We already have someone with special weaopn; Wifgrid. Gold is relatively scarce in Shipwreckced, so being able to pet the Parrot Pirate and feed it to get duboons would already be too good for him; then sanity drain on land? Then he will be doomed to be a big pirate surrounded by sand castles whenever on land.

A pirate hat could probably help to alleviate most of the sanity drain he'd be getting while on land if not all. it'd just mean he'd have to be wearing one most of the time instead of other hats if he doesn't want to lose sanity on land

I would be happy if he was:

-slower (10%) on land

-faster on boats (+15%)

-starts with a spyglass (so he can explore an island from a boat without having to walk)

-has an "old pirate hat" which is a worse version of the pirate hat but lasts for 5 days and is easier to craft (it will boost map reveal range and give a small +2 sanity boost of sailing)

You mean only Pirate hat can debuf sanity loss on land? That makes stuff too much complicated. Land can make him drop sanity, so he should do whatever necessary to debuf that, not another hat. But I would love if it would be possible to drain sanity on land which could only be debuffed by the hat. That needs too much code change in game mechanic on sanity, though. Without that, another fancy hat is complicating game.

His legs have durability and he has to crawl if the durability ever reaches zero.

Requires 2 logs for a fresh pair of legs.

Would be cool if he could walk in the shallows.

Legs could be flammable.

I like the idea of him having a pet parrot. Maybe the parrot drops gold coins randomly.

Maybe he has an eye patch so he reveals less of the map when he explores.

He has a beard so maybe he has some benefits like Wilson.

Can craft a pirate sail to travel faster at sea.

Just throwing my random ideas out there.. maybe one or two are good.
