Don't bother recruiting smallbirds...

Recommended Posts

As soon as you set foot off the island the smallbird was hatched on, it forgets you're its "parent", and avoids you at all costs. It's kind of a shame, really. I hoped they would at least hop on your boat or raft. *sigh*

I'm assuming that at this point, the same goes for any follower aside from Packim, as he seems to be the only one the devs thought to be important for travelling overseas.

I guess this has to do with how the game treads the land-pane and water-pane - creatures spawned on either cannot traverse to the other - even mosquitos can't follow you on the ocean - except if they spawned in the water-pane whilst you were traveling in a boat along the shore for example.

you can test this by spawning in a boat on an island with the console, you can enter the boat and row around the whole island like you would on the ocean, but you cant leave the land-pane with it.

so my guess is, that because of these bounds as of now, you will just get out of range of the small bird/follower after you leave the island and the bonds break.
