The Seasons are flawed in Shipwrecked

Recommended Posts

Just a quick note on something I see as an issue. In rain of giants you had 4 seasons: Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. Winter and Summer were by far the most problematic. However they each had a reduced length of time compared with the less harsh seasons Spring and Autumn. You were able to prepare for those seasons in the previous season. In Shipwrecked there is only one season which doesn't come with unavoidable difficulties. The three other seasons: hurricane, monsoon and summer/volcanic, have all got features that force you to adopt a certain style of play and rely on resources that you have gathered from the single season which was far less dangerous. In winter you are forced to stay on land and near your lightning pole or otherwise lighting would burn resources that you were trying to scavenge. The next season Monsoon I find to be quite flawed. It has a duration of 20 days (compared to 16 in hurricane and summer/volcanic) and has features that prevent you from preparing for the even harder upcoming season. The poison mosquito spawning from onshore flooding is very flawed. They spawn frequently and continuously and unless you have gotten a harpoon you will be poisoned frequently ( a mechanic itself that needs work). you need to create sandbags to surround puddles to prevent spreading but this requires an extremely large amount of cloth and therefore you would only normally have enough to cover your base island. This prevents you from going to other islands due to sanity loss and mosquito poisoning. This therefore leaves you poorly prepared for an almost impossible upcoming season to face next.

To summarise. In reign of giants ,despite its problems, Spring was a season in which you were able to prepare and not be forced to adopt a certain play style. In Shipwrecked the Monsoon season replacing Spring is very deadly and prevents you from leaving your island to prepare for the volcanic season. This creates a flawed season mechanic and is not enjoyable to play.

Um mosquitoes are not that hard to kill with a normal spear just hold the "F" key near them and they'll fly towards you and you'll hit them and stun lock them before they can even bite you.

Wear the seashell armor, it prevents you from being poisoned by attacks.
Also this.

If you wanna visit other islands be prepared.. Have umbrella and snakeskin hat equipped this prevents you to get soaked as it does not allow game to increase ur wetness bar. To prevent flood and mosquitos at your base visit this link:

For summer I think lava fall is OP. You get maybe 600 lava fall on your head throughout summer and if only one hits you you are dead no matter what armor you wear I guess. This is just really OP as in RoG or any other DS, only mob that one shot kill you is bigfoot but if you know game mechs you wont die to bigfoot. Also if you wear armor you can survive bigfoot damage with some chars.

If you are really prepared in summer the chance you can survive is 90%. 10% you will fail cuz it would be night time and you may not see lava fallin on your head..

Not giving you a second chance from lava fall does not make sense.

DS turned into a luck game with lava concept of Shipwrecked. No matter how well you are prepared you still have chance to get hit. Only a little mistake will make you restart all over.

Also already having sea hounds and lava fall is the most OP thing i have seen. Because attacks get more frequent and intense and if you also get sea hounds in final attack it is the most OP thing as lava falls in front of you but at the same time 6 sea hounds behind you if you change your direction they will stunlock you and you will be pretty much dead cuz you dont have chance to repair your boat even if you have lotta kit and going to an island to escape seahounds is not a solution at that stage too cuz lava fall is too frequent and chance to survive on land is even less than surviving in the ocean for very final attack.
