Epic little and big victories/fails you have encountered in SW so far!

As the title suggests, this is a thread to share all of your epic victories/fails! I'll start:

 

I decided there is too little bamboo on my island. I jumped on my boat and sailed to another jungle island. I digged up all the bamboo roots (16), and hurried back to base.

Sadly, that took longer than a day, so, upon planting the bamboo roots, i realized i had to fertilize them.

Luckily, there are a lot of monkeys on my island! I thought it was a good idea to aggro them all, to get loots of poop really quickly. The plan worked put perfectly, the apes threw 21 poop directly in my face. Happily I went to my new bamboo farm and fertilized all the roots.

It was at this point, I realized I was playing Willow and the insanity from the poop-throwing made me start a little fire. Surrounded by 16 burning bamboo roots, i cried silently.

Plenty of food. Plenty of full chests. 6 boats await my command. Base with 30+ grass sapling bamboo vine berry bush,

 

Killed by meteor.

I had the best start, prefect islands and a great base built up, farms, bees, sticks, bamboos. I even had a fridge! 

 

Then I picked up the obsidian staff... A little before flood season. The trap gave me both seasons at once(bug?), dodging meteors trudging through puddles with low sanity. I would like tho think I'm one of the few people to see a mosquito killed by a meteor. I was proud of myself for surviving until actual volcano season started, but next minute double meteor showers! I died a few minutes later, it was like a machine gun. Has to be a bug.

Day 7, had chimney, fridge, crockpot, alchemy, cargo boat w/ sail, farms and extra gears. I'm playing as the robot, btw. Decided to search for reeds to make a bird cage to finish the base. Find a swamp, gather plenty of reeds, new merm hut looks interesting. Maybe I should try to hammer it? 5 merms spawn as soon as I take one swing and insta-kill me, game over. Never again.

Victories so far:

 

- survived the crazy Volcano Season (with full moon)

- survived till day 121 (and still counting)

- killed the Blue,- and the White Whale

 

 

Failures:

 

- figured I should surround my base with 2 lines of sandbags, for the next flood season... only to learn now that you have to surround the upcoming puddles only ... making my camp being flooded this season AGAIN...

- ran in to help Abigail to kill the spiders and forgot that the green ones jump after your butt and poison you <.<

- made cooling pits during volcano erruptions, thinking I could run far enough and ended up with 2 being completely destroyed and resources burned v_v..

Victories:

 

• Found a nice island with Apes, Bores, and Spiders, and Jellyfish and Crabs. My base is a bit below 5 spider dens, so when it comes to Night-Time/Even Dusk, Abigail and wreck those spiders' faces and get me resources every night
• Live to day 22, longest I've survived in Shipwrecked and have a very plentiful food supply from another island far off with tons of more food.
• Clearing out all of the poisonous snakes from my islands, who were trying to take over the world.

Failures:

 

• Forgetting that the tide will occasionally come in and put out any temporary campfires I make and then proceed to fall to Charlie in my past games. Times 5.
• Freaking APES! They caught struck by lightening and set fire to my chests, and then lightning set my alchemy machine on fire. The wind blew all my stuff into the ocean and then... yeah.......... I died. It was not fun time. X_X

Victories:

 

* Fought down about 10 stinkrays just by auto attacking with the attack button. It was only by the forums that I learnt they can poison you ^^.

 

Failures:

 

* Played 25 days, killed numerous snakes and discovered dozen of beach biomes --> not a single shell or snakeskin

* What would happen if I jump on my boat with a torch in my hand during night time..... you die....

You can do it without dying, but you can't move.

If you start moving, he/she will start paddling and that is when the torch goes out.

 

Best thing to do is: Get the better boats and either equip a boat lamp/torch (torch and stick, if I recall right) and equip it onto that OR you make a sail and then the character has their hands free to hold a torch .

Keep in mind though: If you flee into the water while the hounds are barking, the barking stops the shark hound things are coming instead- so stay close to the land then, so you can jump off ^^.

Victories:

 

- Finding out you can hit the hound sharks from land, making easy to kite one by one;

- Learned that the easiest way to keep a stock of food is farming monster meat and ice from the ice machine;

 

Failures:

 

- So, if you sailing as Willow and your sanity is low, she can set the boat on fire, making it lose damage quickly. I couldn't even get to my base to sleep! She just kept making fires and the waves hit my boat too... I drowned

- In hurricane season, if you just chilling on a campfire waiting for morning and a tuff of grass passes by due to the wind, it will catch on fire and will burn everything it touches along its way. I lost a good berry farm that day

- A few deaths from a combination of starving in a search for venom gland. I didn't know how quick the health could decrease.

Fails : The first time i found a blue whale, i wasn't knowing how the boat system was working, so my boat got all destroyed during the fight, then night came while being insane(i was soaked to death), i rushed to the nearest island, a jungle with shaking vines close to where i was. I managed to survive the night with 3 snakes and a terrorbeak wanting to kill me(running around the fire!), then sailed quickly to flee(my boat was sinking slowly), killed the terrorbeak on the sea to get back my sanity(webber FTW), fled from the jungle full of snake to find a deserted island, empty of anything usefull, my boat was at the breaking point. Found a pirate hat on a skeleton, decided a captain never quit his boat, it was over, i went on the sea for the final sail, slowly sinking, like a captain should do with his boat! YAARRR!

You can do it without dying, but you can't move.

After ruthless research with many people harmed (they all died), I found a possible buggy feature.

 

If you start paddling your torch will go out and you can't put it back on unless you equip another tool first and swap it out with your torch. If you dont switch to another tool the paddle will stay in your hand and Charlie will eat you ... ehrm sorry, your boat ...

Wins : After dying with my boat, i started another adventure, this time, i sailed every day, till i managed to make the full way of the map(went West to come from the East of my starting island), found the perfect island(no swamp ;( ). Then, i found the white whale and beat her to death(i failed badly when crafting that poisonned harpoon T.T, pardon me). After the carcass bloated and i made it explode, at the exact same time tiger sharks went to attack me, i used the harpoon got from the carcass to OS both of them

I'm still going on, day 21...wish me luck(also, died of poison, used my touchstone to drop a venow gland right after that T.T, still not poisonned again)

Was having a great ol time as wigfrid.  I was out on my boat with my special hat and my special spear and I took on a whole pod of dolphins and stinkrays at once.  I was thinking oh wow I don't take any damage!  But then they destroyed my boat because I forgot about durability at this particular time in the morning and I drowned.

Playing as Willow my first game. Have you ever been in the middle of the ocean and just felt like a fire? Yeah, I didn't think so. So after that, with my sanity already shaky, I decided to antagonize the monkeys, and was continuously spattered with filth as I torched everything I could reach, in an effort to burn the little menaces to death.  Sadly, the sanity boost from fire wasn't enough, and the Terrorbreak killed me.

In all my days  of Don't Starve nothing has been more satisfying than pulling into an island... getting attacks by a killer bee hive... retreating back to my boat... and nuking them with my cannon

Day 11, found 3 islands and just left the reef with enough coral to make a chimenia. Feeling rather full of myself. Hadn't had a hound attack yet. Didn't realize that "I'm going to need a bigger boat!" was Wilson speak for "Holy Sh@t, sharks are coming!" Died of drowning trying to jump onto an island... I found a neat barrel you can attack and make explode though.

I survived 15 days, got my armored boat crushed several times...hard times...

Victories - I am on my first run and still alive at day 57, though I am panicked for the summer, I feel way under prepped, didnt read much about what comes but the summer deal. Also spawned two items in, a cane and some gears (

 

Have learned how to kill the monkeys without being bothered by sanity, to hell with the monkeys. Anyone building their huts is crazy unless you do it for a spring base so they draw mosquito attention.

 

Fails - I didnt know everything floods, I have the snake skin hat and vest so sanity not an issue, but my machines are all flooded- hoping they return to function when the waters gone, currently preparing an island  ( or trying to) but there is like no area not flooded to put a fridge and  endothermal pit to run around avoiding the volcano splash.

 

I cant find the clockwork things, and I cant find a whale.

 

Havent had time to do virtually anything I would like to, surviving is all I can manage without getting reckless and trying to build a strong base. Though once I die I have a much better idea of what to do.

 

I only have 3 hounds teeth on day 57, just had the latest attack of 8ish hounds, one tooth dropped... the only two I had came from a group of four or five, and I used those to make a sewing kit, which has one use left. And I cant find anymore bones, found 5  of those only. I still have an X on the map I can go grab, so basically failing to gather some very important resources.

 

 

 

This game is awesome, the original became wayyyyy too easy, and I think this game is perfect, there is so much more to do that I don't think you could progress as far as you can in the other game with same time limit. It is almost overwhelming trying to figure out what to do. But its perfect, a few random resources have been a pain like gears (which they said they would get more in) and I saw people complaining of the poison, its fine, though these mosquitos have popped me a few times so I have no more made til I go grab more coral, so might be on thin ice. I am dying during summer, if I cant rebuild an effigy meat after my looming first death.

Survived until day 76, and endless meteor shower started (was dodging for 1.5 days sitting on a meat of dead birds). I thought my game is glitched, and I just left until next time. But after some time I read on forums that it may be intended (like closing of a summer), so I encouraged myself to resume game and try to survive until heat or something else will get me. After one more day shower ended. And after that, REAL paradise has begun. No heat, super short dusks and nights, no rains. You free to do whatever you want for a very long time. Nice.

Epic fail: Was poisoned, but knew where some coral reefs were, and figured I might be able to hold out long enough to survive, if I could get venom glands. While running around gathering resources, the winds started up (not hurricane season yet!) so I'm slowly dying of poison, stuff being blown every which way into the water, I'm thinking, is there anything else this game can do to me?! (Yeah I hadn't heard about volcano season yet...) - Finally I died, but I resurrected at a touchstone, thinking great! Still have a chance to survive - and now I don't have to tackle that pesky poison any more! So I went back to get all my loot, which of course was scattered all along the shore by the winds, and then the hounds started barking. I thought, fine, can hounds swim? Let's find out! And jumped on my raft. Water hounds immediately jumped me, with no warning, and I died.

 

This is how I discovered water hounds. I just sat there laughing - they are so ridiculous looking!
