Anyone figured out a good way to deal with the Apes yet?

Recommended Posts

I feel like though some would be nice for the manure I keep coming across large islands that are filled with tons of apes and getting picked clean by them. I was wondering if smashing their huts with a hammer would get rid of them? If anyone has has figured out ways to deal with them I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for the help.

I usually just hammer their dens then kill them while they are picking up the poop and twigs. You're going to get crap-flingged.

same with me, i usually killed them by putting stuff on the floor, and killed it when they picked :D . When they throw u poop, u just keep moving so u dont get hit. Any othr idea?

Thanks guys for all the tips. Anyone know the conditions under which they will fling poop? Right now I'm playing Wendy and have Abigail out so I'd have to wait for me to lose her or after the next hound attack I might just dismiss her, but what I wanted to do was aggro some to fling poop at me then run along the water so it all lands in the water then jump on my boat scoop it up and leave. At least seemed like a good way to get manure to me.

I had an island infested with monkeys, and I found the best answer to be fire.  They don't even aggro you if you light up their houses with a torch, and you can pick them off one by one after their spawn is gone.

As for feces flinging, just give one a wack with a weak weapon.  Him and every monkey on screen will kindly supply you with 8 advanced farms in a few minutes.

Keep one hut for spawning, torch the rest, and litterally beat the **** out of them.

They'll fling manure at you whenever another ape on screen is attacked, It doesnt do damage but is -10 Sanity I believe (not sure the exact number)
Someone else said it, but what I do is I break down a home, get some bananas and feed them all to monkeys to recruit them, and then have them attack other monkeys, and just as they fight and die, collect the bananas they drop until eventually you're down to only a handful left.
I wiped out 100 monkeys this way (I'm  monster :'D)

That sounds amazingly fun. I'll have to try that later. Right now though I'm doing an RoG run because I still need Max and Webber unlocked.

Theres a certain attack pattern you can use. Get close enough to the ape so it doesnt run away. Once you've figured out the distance just stand there and wait for a few seconds for the ape to scream. When he screams he'll be standing still, you want to move as soon as he screams to get about 2 hits in, you get about 3~4 hits depending on your angle and if it flinches or not. Doing this with a spear generally kills it.

That seems really smart. I'll have to try it. Didn't think of utilizing the scream.

Here is what you do, find island full of monkeys like 5+ huts, approach from the sea, look at them and say "good bye mother%$"#%"  and rain fire on their houses with your BOAT CANON!!!  haha let them BURN!! :D

Speaking of all the monkeys, am I the only one who's getting a massive Monkey Island vibe from this entire dlc? Horrifically evil Monkeys, tropical islands, snarky parrots, and that tropical soundtrack sounds so much like the main theme of Monkey Island 3, albeit less cheerful. I'm just waiting for LeChuck and his crew to sail in and wreck my stuff.

If you are lucky enough to have a wildboar hut on the island with monkeys..

1) One wildboar can kill a whole pack of monkeys easy, if you order him he starts charging from far away and then smack the monkey this is the perfect time to assist him, as they will try to bite him.

2) Monkeys and spiders will not attack each other, but snakes attack everyone, a nice way to deal with monkeys is placing a lot of vine bushes around their huts.

I once got onto a huge island with 20 spiders dens and probably as much monkey huts and it was in a deep jungle. I visited the place in the night, and there was a damn crazy battle, and it seemed that snakes were always winning, so i could just run around pick up the silk and other stuff :)

That's cool! I was wondering what it was that made the snakes spawn at night. In case I wanted to make the jungley biome "safe"

I play with wendy and I send wendy's sister ghost to kill the apes. And then I just help her. They die easily and they are a big help with the manure and bananas and meat resourses. They are annoying and what I did was hammer their nests and make them a little far away from my base and important stuff. And like that, when I need them I just go and kill them.

Just burn the huts; it won't aggro the Prime Apes. Hammering them, in my experience, can but won't always aggro the apes. Hammering the huts might yield a trinket like a garden gnome, but there's plenty of gold available once you find a volcanic biome.
