How do I customise beard / hair growth for my character

Hi guys,

I want to give my Wanda character Flowery Dreadlocks, that:

* Grow at the same rate as Wilson's beard

* Delay overheating like a Summer Frest when fully grown

* If cut at half length it provides 6 fresh flower petals and +30 sanity;

* If cut at full length, provides 12 fresh flower petals, and 1 cactus flower and +60 sanity

* If cut during a full moon, yields evil petals instead of normal, according to its length

I have been told "OverrideSymbol is hell to code. It's almost impossible to use it as you want without hacks." Not sure what he means, but if anyone has any creative solutions, I'm all ears

All is easy except one thing: GROW.

Dreadlocks are behind the head, and Wilson's beard is under the head. So override symbol "beard" won't help.
