It's the little things I miss most.

After spending some time playing Don't Starve (singleplayer) for the first time in a few months, I'm surprised at how many tiny distinctions there are between DST and DS that seem to make large differences. For example, depending on which version you're playing, insanity can be either a truly terrifying and harrowing experience or an annoying chore. It seems that when the focus of attention becomes other people, it becomes harder to appreciate some of the subtler aspects of Don't Starve, including the feelings and thoughts one has while playing. Heck, I've even starved before simply because I got caught up in the conversations I was having, accidentally neglecting my character (who only ever comments on it once).

I'm not really sure how (or even if) this could be fixed, but I just want to put it out there.

Anyone else agree?

The devs have previously expressed that this is the reason they didn't make DST for so long. Don't Starve is all about being alone in the wilderness, starving and going insane, while DST loses that feeling because you are playing with friends. It is just part of the game.

It's also experience.

If you become seasoned on either DST or DS, you view things differently on either of them.

I see shadows as walking nightmare fuel now, instead of some eldritch horror.

I also admit terrorbeaks aren't that scary the first time when 10 people are running around /posing with beefalo backpacks.
