The best thing you could use are SAI and a drawing tablet (I think), but you would need to understand the professional equipment as well. Frankly, paint.net and experimentation are what you most likely want. Also, maybe look up on topics such as shading and highlights? It's not hard to grasp the essential information, but it helps a lot. Also, patience. Also also, you should keep in mind that computers have an undo button. Also also to the max, use layers if possible. Using layers, you can hide and move individual lines as needed.
