[BUG?] Giants always despawn after a few seconds off screen

I have this issue with Bearger and Dragonfly constantly despawn on me. I know that they despawn for a fact by using the c_gonext("prefabs") command.

Also, they didn't despawn because of the end of season.

I didn't use any mods when I experience this.

All that happened was, I leave for like half of a screen away to let the Giant have their way with the hound mounds, then poof, gone.

Lastly, I have all my giants set to "more." I would just like to know if this was intended or an actual bug?

I looked at both of the giants prefabs and easily understood why they despawn.

 

There are 3 different cases when they can despawn.

 

#1 They will despawn if these conditions are met.

  • They've "seen" your base (they will check for 2 or more "structures" which are mostly structures that the player can craft - crock pot, firepit, lightning rod, prototype machines,chest etc. But also - beehives(not beeboxes, hives, idk why), merm and pig heads on a stick, pig houses, bunny houses, so even a pig village will be enough that they've seen a base.
  • They are not near the base right now. They have 30 (I don't know what unit, maybe turfs?) distance in which they check.
  • You are not their target.

If all 3 conditions are met at once, they will despawn.

 

#2

  • They are asleep. I don't think putting them to sleep during a fight counts towards this. Should be if you put them to sleep and get away far enough, or if night comes.

  • They're not near a base.
  • And they already killed you once.
