Koalefant limit?

Recommended Posts

I've been freezing my butt of wondering why I was able to find all these koalefant tracks in the summer, but now that it's winter they just won't show up! But then it occured to me that I may have hit a koalefant spawn limit. I have 3 (or is it 4?) summer kolefants roaming about my world. Perhaps that's all the cuteness the world can handle? I'm doing vanilla Don't Starve, btw.

Oh, and while I'm griping about glute crystalization, I've killed (sorowfully) seems like a dozen beefalo and NONE of them have dropped a horn! This is pretty bad, since there were very few beefalo in this world to begin with. Now there are only two left. I have to keep waiting until they breed and then killing the precious, endangered creatures. At least now I found the chess piece, so I have the gears to make a fridge to store all the access meat. It looks like I might have to kill one of my darling pet koalefants now, just to make a blue one spawn...Does that make me racist?

l am not aware of a limit regarding hunting tracks. Maybe you're just unlucky.

If you press ctrl+L you can open the log. When it says "suspicious dirt placed" a new trail appeared. This is kind-of cheating, of course.

Regarding the horn... bad luck. Luckily it's not essential in any way, as a very warm hat at most.

Hm..Yes, normally I would consider this cheating, but I think I could justify it for the sake of finding out if I've reached some sort of invisible limit. After all, I won't use it to find out where they are.

Well, yeah. I've just been having some very cold winters because these two items that are alluding me are both of the highest teir insulation items. I'm getting by though. It's really more of a nuisance than anyting else (speaking of which, a loathsome Mactusk came out of nowhere and launched a sequence of events that lost me both of my touchstones. Oh well, they were spawned in strategically poor locations [i basically resurrected right at Mactusks front door again], so I'm kind glad to get those uncertain variables over with, as now I can control where I'll resurrect).

Oh yeah, also herding beefalo by enraging or slowly pushing them are both rather excruciating substitutes for a horn. Sad thing is, I had a save file with an overabundance of beefalo horns, but it got bricked by an apparent glitch involving dying while exiting a cave with a meat effigy on the surface.

In my opinion, koalefants aren't too necessary later game, unless of course you are playing as wigfridge in RoG. After a while, you should have a pretty decent food farming area, and other means of getting food.

Yeah, they're not too necessary. As far as I'm concerned I only really care to kill one summer koalefant for the breezy vest and one winter one for the puffy vest. However, they are an easier source of manure, in my opinion, than beefalo, because they are much easier to herd (and they don't go into heat or gang up on you). The beefalo compulsion to return to a particular spot can be a real pain, but koalefants stay roughly where you put them, even without a pen.

I had to kill one for the breezy vest, I had to kill another hoping that it would make room for a winter one to spawn, and a third one...somehow got killed by pig guardians...unless it was actually hounds that framed the pig guardians. But I have only one left now, and the main reason I'm sad is that I...love them...They were my darling pets! *weep*

Before my one year of absence, I was told that there was a one normal and one winter koalafant limit in terms of them being in the world, so when you found one you had to kill it for more tracks to spawn. I no longer play vanilla as I bought RoG recently, and a lot can change in a year.

Well that's certainly not true as of now. I definitely had three normal koalefants side by side.

Oh my gosh, I FINALLY found a winter koalefant, and I tried to get pigs to kill it for me...but then they happened to chase it into my tooth traps and it died and before I could find its trunk amongst all the traps, ONE OF THE PIGS ATE IT...At least that's not as bad as back when I had the traps next to my berry bushes to kill gobblers...and a fire hound got caught in them during one of the hound waves. I lost 80 berry bushes that day. That was the majority of berry bushes in the entire world. I think it was the gobblers' vengful plan all along...

Btw, I did finally find that beefalo horn. Baby beefalo have been spawning very far away from the adults, because apparently that's where the herd location is (the adults are in a pen constantly walking up against the wall, so clearly they haven't accepted it as their new herd location).

My...koalafants...I had four of them in this lovely pen. 2015-08-10_00001.jpg

But then...deerclops... Not a single koalefant survived. Just big stinkin' pile of meat. This is probably the most horrific murder I have ever witnessed in Don't Starve. I loved those koalefants like they were my own precious children. I'm tempted to eat his eyeball out of sheer spite...but I should probably hold onto it..wretched fiend.

It's the holoclops, likely the worst thing that ever happened in the history of Wilson.

I'm sorry *rolls up and away*
