Tosh
As someone with more concepts than free time, I've decided to put all my ideas together on here in case anyone wants to take them on. I'll come back and update this post with more content periodically.First off I want to introduce the "Beary Regal Cushion": it is essentially an oversized tasseled cushion that, when crafted, creates a fixed point for the Bearger to hibernate during Winter. It would act as a tether, limiting how far away the giant could move. The whole purpose of this item is to allow a greater degree of control when farming fur tuffs and to offer a degree of (volatile) protection, basically a 'Bear Cult' play style where the giant is incorporated into the base. This structure's recipe could probably consist of silk, rope/gold (for a luxurious golden tassel) and down feathers (because this is a high tier item and it fits thematically).Next is the "Eye Drum": a gong-like structure which would function by emitting a sound which wakes up nearby players, mobs, and eliminates drowsiness when hit with a weapon. This item primarily works as a form of protection against pan flutes, sleep darts and a yawning Bearger, but also synergises well the 'Bear Cult' play style as it can be used to wake up sleeping creatures without aggro. This structure's recipe could consist of a Deerclops' Eyeball, twigs/rope and Beefalo Horns (looks cool, shared theme of being sound based items). The last one is a simple item called a "Bunny Baton": a weapon crafted from a twig, rope and a rabbit (preferably a bunny puff whenever caves get implemented to make them a more useful drop). Pretty much a muffled drumstick; it would do no damage, but have unlimited durability. The main purpose of this would be as the first choice when using the "Eye Drum" (prevents weapon durability being wasted), but would be useful if you ever needed to aggro a mob without inflicting damage (or even trolling your friends with pvp enabled!). Tosh
Quickly posting this on my lunch break at work. This is a "Scaled Bucket": a bucket made from Dragonfly scales which can be filled with lava by activating the new lava ponds. This would act as a high tier renewable thermal stone, could allow lava to be used as fuel and would provide a very small emergency light source. Seiai
@Tosh, sounds like a lot of work for items that will be used very rarely and lategame. if u really want someone to mod it, u should at least put the effort into it and create the actual digital artwork with color and transparent background. http://www.gimp.org/ is a good program for that. Since they dont need any/much animation, u dont need to know much about modding and it wont be much work. the baton only needs one image for equipped and one for on the ground. the bucket one for empty, one for full, and maybe some for different heatstages. and if u split the eyedrum into an image for the eye and one for the frame, the swinging can be animated. the cushion probably only needs one image, but might be hard to code, so it shouldn't be your first choice. all your items so far, but for the "Beary Regal Cushion", are reasonably easy to code, if the artwork is done, so surely u will find someone (if the artwork is done, i would consider it actually). Tosh
Thanks for the feedback! My main reason for sharing these ideas here is because even if I never get round to doing something with them, someone else might take inspiration from them. Having said that though, I am currently looking into using my iPad as a graphics tablet as that has always been a major roadblock for me. Apologies for the roughness of these sketches by the way; they're basically proof of concept doodles.I actually had a go at sketching on my iPad with my finger earlier just to see if it's doable. I'd obviously like to invest in a stylus, but doing the artwork myself does seem feasible! This is a quick concept doodle of a Blacksmith character which would basically be a temperature based Wolfgang build with a few extra craftables. Seiai
Apologies for the roughness of these sketches by the way; they're basically proof of concept doodles.they are good enough to directly be the outlines of your digital art. This is a quick concept doodle of a Blacksmith character which would basically be a temperature based Wolfgang build with a few extra craftables.for a character u would have to download this: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/files/file/950-extended-sample-character/ and create all the art for the images in the "exported" folder of that template. a bit more work, but the charactertemplate allows u to see your artwork ingame without having seen a single line of code(u can ask me for help there). only to make it an uploadable mod, u would have to at least follow the tutorial, that is linked there( or again let someone else do it). Tosh
I sorted out my drawing setup this afternoon and wanted to give a quick update. I've changed the "Eye Drum" to a "Ceremonial Gong" which functions the same, but wouldn't require the eyeball to craft. Let me know if anyone has any feedback on the line art before I move on to colouring and animating it! Seiai
@Tosh, dont forget to make the background transparent, and i hope u know that spriter for animating is included in the "dont starve mod tools"(install in steamlibrary->tools->"donst starve mod tools", find the tool in SteamApps\common\Don't Starve Mod Tools\mod_tools\Spriter\spriter.exe). so if u want to make the animation yourself, u should start animating a sketch of it, so u know how to split up the artwork for best results, before u do the final artwork. official spriter tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8Vej0NhCcI5sxOT64-Z31LW59VUyAVfr Edited June 30, 2015 by Seiai Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/55672-unused-mod-concepts/#findComment-651073 Share on other sites
