Clockwork enemies / gears

Recommended Posts

My friend an I were playing with the standard "Together Forever" preset, and couldnt find a single clockwork enemy on the map.The entire map, with no part left unexplored. We came across multiple clockwork themed areas (ie with marble trees) but there wasnt any enemies. This is a death sentence... The only way to have found gears woulve been graves or tumble weed, but those were both far away, and are unreliable at best. Is it common for none to spawn?

I've seen a couple instances of servers spawning with no gears and no clockworks.  It's not common, but it does happen.  It's to the point where if I'm regenerating the world on my Wilderness server I'll do a c_countprefabs("$foo") for $foo=gears, knight, bishop, pigking and redo the world if I see nothing there.

(for my Survival server, couldn't care less, the point to survival {as I see it} is to see how long you can hold out until you die, no gears is just a harder version of that challenge, besides, Survival servers almost never make it through winter and even more rarely through summer so it just isn't a big deal)

WX-78 is not really a good choice for DST in my opinion.  The fact that everyone wants gears (for stuff like fridges) means they're really too rare for WX to get a bunch of them to eat.  I feel that without a reliable source of gears it just doesn't have enough going for it to be as good a character in DST as it is in single-player.

(maybe the eating stale food thing is a bit of an advantage, but even in DST an experienced player won't be starving to death due to spoilage so it's really only an advantage for a new player and probably not good enough to compensate for the lack of gears)

Completely agree. Even in single RoG the situation can be the same: world with few gears means heading down to the ruins with WX for upgrades. Until ruins are added in DST, and in the case of a world such as the one OP has, tumbleweeds are pretty much the solution. Plus, I never found it hard to get 1-2 gears from tumbleweeds after 2 tours around the desert.
