jeneah
When you befriend a creature, how do you sic him on something?Specifically, I'm playing as Webber and I want to start a spider civil war. On the forums and so on I see people say "have them attack the other spider," but how?I think you take a swing at the target but move away before you actually make contact, thereby triggering your friendlies to attack. Is that correct or is there some other mechanism I don't know about?
Mobbstar
Every follower is slightly different, but all combat fellows attack if you click on something to attack it. You can hold CTRL to attack allies.
jeneah
But if you just attack the critter you attack goes aggro. With spiders that's bad news (I have a spider island with HUNDREDS of spiders so if they go aggro I am dead meat). So I need to know how to doc my spider minions without making the target aggro. If you've got followers, it's enough to initiate the attack without executing it.
jeneah
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I couldn't get it to work. My timing must be off? If I click attack and then stop the animation right away, then they don't attack. If I wait until I start the swing and then stop, they still don't attack. A little longer and my target goes aggro (with the inevitable result on Spider Island, oy).

So weird, in that video it looks like he clicks attack and immediately stops it, but the lobster still attacks. It's not working that way for me, for some reason. I have to get halfway through my actual attack for the spiders to join in, and hopefully I stop it soon enough to keep the thing from going aggro on me. I can't recruit anything that is naturally aggressive against spiders playing as Webber, alas. The whole reason I'm trying to get this to work is to start a massive spider civil war. I've been getting it to work ok, but it's definitely very dangerous.
applebottom
I've read somewhere that it works differently in DS vs DST. In DST, if you cancel attack, your minions will stop too. In DS it works same as before. (minions will go on attacking even if you cancel) Can someone please confirm?

Thanks for confirming the difference. Sometimes I'm not sure if I really read something or just imagined it...
jeneah
Thank you applebottom! It hadn't occurred to me to think there might be a DS/DST difference on this point! But now that I think about it, it would probably mess with PvP to make it to easy to sic minions on somebody. And having died several times because of accidentally clicking on, and therefore attacking, spiders, I can attest to that. Hmm, I hope they will consider a slightly different mechanic. And now I kind of want to go back to regular DS as webber and command a full army--I didn't play as Webber in singleplayer very much so I didn't get the fun of communing with spiders until now. But it is kind of antisocial in DST unless there are other Webbers. I'll stop tweaking this I swear, but a last comment on the forums: I posted this here because I once posted on the DST forums and someone replied with "what does this have to do with DST?" Nothing that didn't also apply to DS, I guess, but that could go both ways. Anyway, now that I'm playing DST pretty much exclusively I will probably just stick to that side of the fence, so to speak! See you at DST forums then. (Also does this Webber love mean you're gonna change your profile pic soon?)
