I remember watching a video interview about it, but now I can't find it, so here's a written one instead. To add to his post, the Don't Starve engine was custom-built in C++, and has been ported to a bunch of different platforms. Most of Don't Starve's gameplay code is written in LUA, which is great for portability and iteration.
