Here's a link to a topic with a video of Mr. Tiddles using PAINT.NET for it, a free software: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/31528-drawing-the-nik-tiddles-way/

But keep in mind, the Don't Starve art style is NOT EASY, you won't simply draw like one of the game's artists thanks to a certain software or something like that, it requires ability and training, I'm training almost every day this art style and believe me, it isn't an easy art style, so keep in mind you might take time to get good at it, who knows, maybe you're a natural? Only time will tell.

I probably am a natural B)

to me its about research until an idea pops up.

So the characters are mostly coming from circa - late 1800's-1900's right when the Industrial revolution was peaking around the world. A renaissance of ideas was happening (remember, no one had planes, no cars, and Tesla and Edison where going at it.)

So science was still practically magic. hhere are some links of much of the world back then for inspiration. Aparently, before world war I, people thought the french where the next big thing, according to the World's Fair article. (magic/science at the worlds fair, even though they where showing technologies of the times, they where held in "Crystal Palaces" imo depicting that technology was still part a fantasy world.)

speaking of fantasy worlds, in the 1900's since most of the world hadn't been discovered, or played in (scuba gear didn't come around practically until 1910) The world was still considered a much more magical place.

So if you take a look at the links, consider that

Hopefully this will inspire you a bit, and aid in the styled times. but mostly think everything relats to a grey area of what was magic, and what was science,

one last link HERE , of thomas edison doing one of the first sci fi's.......ever.
