mod recommendation?

Recommended Posts

As the title says, I was wondering if anyone can suggest mods for my upcoming dedicated server.

I love new characters, and any other quality of life mods, but am completely new to adding them.

I love the fuzzy characters, with the cats and foxes, but good character designs obviously welcome in the suggestion.

Thank you for any help given ^_^

@MaeFire, Hmm, well, apart from porting some of single-player's built-in characters, I don't know much about DST character mods. But More DST Characters and DST RoG Characters are good. Woodie for DST is decent too, but has a few issues with it still that are mostly due to Woodie simply being a really difficult thing to do mechanically.

Quality of life mods... Most of those are client-only, so you don't need them on the server. But Global Positions is one that is needed on the server. Renewable World is also really nice, especially if your server is going to be public, and in that line as well, Simple Protection (although contrary to its name, it's got a lot of options that are a bit overwhelming at first).

Extended Map Generation is also pretty cool, although that goes a bit beyond quality of life.

Client-only quality of life mods I use: Gesture Wheel, Always On Status, Geometric Placement, Minimap HUD, Status Announcements.

I did write most of these mods, but I don't gain anything from having people use them, so I'm really writing about them because I think they're nice to have (and that's also why I wrote them).

Is Simple Protection on Steam

Yup, it came up a few results down when I searched "simple".

But yeah, mod auto-downloading only functions with Steam (for now, anyway).

Edit: Although I think Simple Protection is server-only, so it doesn't need to be auto-downloaded.

Someone needs to port Action Queue (hint hint)

Only Simplex could do such a thing. I looked at Action Queue's code a few months ago in the interest of porting it and it was really complicated under the hood, and everything it relied on to work was changed for DST.

Man, I'd love to make a mod, but I'm too unskilled for that stuff.

Edit: If you want a cat mod, here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=387593739&searchtext=

There's no foxes envolved, but it's the 2nd best thing.

My god.. I want that O_O

You don't give us modders enough credit! :p From briefly looking at the code, a port wouldn't be out of the question. Most of it is input stuff (which is client-side) and math/geometry stuff to create the selection box (which I believe is also client-side). The actionqueuer component itself isn't terribly complex.

You're right that Simplex should be the one to port it, though.
