Zchu
So I see Mods work for Don't Starve Together, but the way they work with multiple people leads me to some questions. So if you have mods from the Steam Workshop the other people in your session get them temp downloaded while the play with you, right? So what if you are using a custom character that is NOT on the workshop? For example, I have a custom character i want to make, BUT I am not going to put her on the workshop. She is my personal character and I would rather not have her for others to download and use. My friend I will be playing with will also have a custom character. So will it be possible for us to play together with our custom characters if neither of them is on the workshop? Thanks! DarkXero
Well, yes, as long as your friends have the mod too. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/48535-custom-characters-that-are-not-in-workshop/#findComment-597761 Share on other sites
Kzisor
@Zchu, if you open up your server to the public any mod enabled on the server must be able to be downloaded from the workshop on Steam; this includes custom characters. Whomever is hosting the server must have both custom characters enabled for anyone to be able to choose them even if the client has them enabled. If you plan on playing only with your friend then simply send your friend your character and have your friend send you their character. Both your friend and yourself must go into the Mods menu and enable both custom characters in order for them to work correctly. Overall, it's easier to simply upload them to the Workshop so that if you decide in the future you want to host a public server, there is no conflict. Developer PeterA Posted January 6, 2015 Developer Share Posted January 6, 2015 Both your friend and yourself must go into the Mods menu and enable both custom characters in order for them to work correctly. Technically your friend shouldn't need to manually enable the mod, they just need it in their mods folder. When joining your server with your non-workshop mod, it will be temporarily enabled for that session. Batmanwarrior
@Zchu You can upload the mod to the workshop, but make it visible for friends-only. That way you can update the mod whenever you want, without sending your characterfiles to your friend every time. Then you can both work on your custom characters and it will always be synced, (as long as you update the workshop article using Dont Starve Mod Tools).
