But I do recommend RoG because it's doubles DS' content but it makes it harder.By the way @Shenny, I don't remember it fully either but you need the base game (I might be wrong). ryouryou Posted December 29, 2014 Share Posted December 29, 2014 The original plan was that you would need the base game, and that DST would be integrated into it fully, and just be a select-able option from inside of Don't Starve. However, DST resulted in a complete rewrite of most of the code of DS, even the copied features, and thus the developers have decided it will be a standalone expansion that will not require DS. If you have a key, or early access, to DST, you will have DST when it releases regardless of which other games you own.That being said... I heartily recommend at least the base game, and to play it yourself a bit before jumping into online games, if you are new to the mechanics. It can help you learn in an environment where other people won't get frustrated at you for being new, and combat is a little easier because the monsters aren't all buffed for multiple people to take on. I just don't know if that was after the game was finally out of Early-Access or when it started that way.
