Please bring Don't Starve to Wii U!

Recommended Posts

Hello, Klei.

I have been playing Don't Starve for a long time and it is one of my all time favourite games. As the title suggests, I don't have a suggestion for the game as such but more for Klei's games in general.

Your games have a very distinct art style and gameplay to them. They aren't outragiously violent or offensive and (I am not entirely familiar with all your games entirely) generally appeal to a very wide age rating.

I have recently recieved a Wii U and after looking around it's marketplace, the number of third party developers for the console is fairly low. I understand that along with Nintendo's... morality, shall I say, for the games they allow on their platform as well as the lower hardware specs the console holds, this can stop a lot of developers from going to Nintendo, but as far as I am aware these boundaries need not apply for Klei?

Playing with the Wii U, I see there should be good enough hardware to support Klei's games, as well as the Wii U's gamepad being an excelent opportunity to hold the inventory, crafting menu, map or even just to be able to use the gamepad to play instead of needing to use the TV screen. I have watched many Don't Starve videos on Youtube (Yes I know it is not entirely the same) and the whole screen is readable within the gamepad. Nintendo needs more great third party developers and I would love Klei to be among them. I use Don't Starve as my example because I am most knowledgeable with that game but I am sure others could give great examples as to how your other games could benefit from being on Nintendo platforms more than I could. I cannot stress enough how much I would love to be able to play Don't Starve on the Wii U(Or maybe even the 3DS, but that would require a bit of revision of the inventory/crafting mechanic) and I really hope there are enough people out there to convince Klei to give this a shot. It may even give Klei a better chance in countries where Nintendo have far more influence than PC, Xbox or Playstation.

Maybe Klei have already tried Nintendo that I haven't been able to find? I did look a little before I posted to see if this had been done before and found nothing, but if there is any news on this front at all, I would love to know. I am sorry for any mistakes, the Wii U text editor does not point out incorrect spelling.

A huge Don't Starve fan,

James.

Also, I am aware for some reason my post was made three times. If someone could tell me how to remove the other two, I would be most grateful.

 yeah, not violent at all...

Also, didn't Klei sign some exclusivity contract with Sony or anything? If they didn't, they might as well make for every console, as porting it for Xbox One wouldn't be that complicated after the PS3/4(I've got to stop speculating on things I have no idea of how it's done), and the Wii U version could be nice(and another reason for me to consider buying it) with all the double screen stuff.

But, y'know, time, avaibility of employees to work on that, money and stuff. Chances are these ports are not coming soon. Maybe after Through the Ages?

I know Klei made Don't Starve on PS Vita, but I wasn't sure if it was an exclusive thing, seeing as it was on PC first and if it is exclusive, I hope it is only a timed exclusive as Don't Starve seems it could be a great game on all platforms, as well as portable devices.

I understand making Klei's games wouldn't break a profit from the trade off of making the game on all platforms for a long time so they would have to choose who they develop for wisely but the way I see it, the majority of Xbox/Playstation owners play purely the big AAA titles. If Don't Starve was on the Wii U, it would stand out more for being an already renowned brilliant game as well as the edition of gamepad functionality, as you said.

Yes, many wii u games allow one player to use a regular controller (very diverse options, wiimote alone, wiimote + nunchuck, wiimote + classic/class pro, pro controller, etc, depending on what the game developers choose to support) while looking at the TV, and another player to use the gamepad, which can display a completely different screen from the tv, allowing two players to play simultaneously without splitting the screen.

Nintendo is terrible at advertising this, but it is pretty amazing, especially for games that require the full FOV to enjoy properly, or games with PVP, where you can use it to avoid looking at each others' windows.

I never thought about the idea of two players within the Wii U version and when you think about it, your idea is entirely plausible. The nunchuck fo movement and the Wii remote for aiming the 'mouse'. The Wii remote has enough buttons for all the functions as well as the Wii U gamepad being able to be used like PS Vita controls or have it reinvented to use the Wii U gamepad's full capabilities, of which would be a whole lot more fun and convenient.

I really do believe there is a good reason to make Don't Starve on the Wii U from a technical and innovation stand point, but the main issue is actually finding out if the game being remade yet again would break a profit.

I have just seen Nintendo's upcoming line-up and had a wonderful surprise. I am sure Klei were probably working on this before I even posted here but I still want to thank Klei greatly for bringing Don't Starve to Wii U! I already own it on Steam but I will most definitely be buying the Giant Edition as soon as possible. Thank you, Klei!
