Character disappears after firing pistol.

Finally got my gun into the game, however, my character disappears after firing it. He also can no longer move. Just sorta bleeps out of existence. Any ideas as to what could cause. Most likely a lua coding issue.

He didn't say it crashed, so a log wouldn't be very helpful IIRC, the best way to get help would be to post a zip of your mod, (Or atleast copy/paste the relevant code)

 

Oh, and i'm pretty sure the Orphaned unnamed resource is nothing. My log has a ton of those, and my mod works fine.

Here's the biggest issue:

local function onattack_gun(inst, attacker, target)

So, the parameters should actually be (and what they are actually representing) are:

local function onattack_gun(attacker, target, projectile)

Basically, you're actually telling the character to do silly things.

target.sg:GoToState("hit")

You're actually doing this:

attacker.sg:GoToState("hit")

That doesn't solve the issue completely, but it should put you in the right direction. Make sure you're using the correct parameters when using component functions, otherwise you'll get some very strange results.

That makes sense. Truly jealous of your fluency in the language. Now we got some crashes after making the changes. Going to keep doing some fiddling with your suggestions in mind. Anyone else got any ideas?

 

Fluency? Hahaha, nope. I know what I'm doing, but I'm definitely not fluent.

 

As for the crash, I didn't experience any in my tests after changing those parameters. What does your log say?

scratch that. Made a boo boo. No crash. Character bleeps out of existence for a split second until target is hit. Target dies, all is well. IF the weapon misses for whatever reason (bird flies off mid attack) the character will remain out of existence. What would account for these little bugs, besides my incompetence.

I'm not sure why the character flashes. I haven't looked at it past that, I'll check into later when I'm back at home if you're still having trouble.
