It is always good to help a friend (Reviving)

Recommended Posts

I know this has been talked about 1000 times before but I have a good idea on a way to bring back a dead friend if they die. For example, your friend you are playing with decides to Pick a fight with a pig and gets killed. You would then be able to pick up thier body as an item called "fallen comrade". The item slows walking speed but if u give it a Life giving amulet or Revive them at your active meat effigy.

This sounds like a good idea, it would be funny if it had an option like cannibalize.  Also it could have a decay time.

I'm for permadeath, but assuming I wasn't, this is a good start. I'd like to add that I think it'd be a good trade-off to have your dead friend take place of your backpack slot when you're carrying him, as a tradeoff, until you revived him.

edit: actually, giving it more thought, I'd be completely fine with this is a permadeath alternative. You'd sacrifice time to revive your friend, and time is valuable. There'd be plenty of instances where it'd just be too tough to do that, so I'm now totally for it.

In this topic: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/36834-permadeath-in-dont-starve-together-announced-as-optional/page-15#entry502384 I mention how when a player dies they could become "ghosts" who aren't hostile and can be "shoo'd" this could tie in with this where instead you have the option to revive the person by following them to their corpse and maybe make some kind of Altar where you put the Corpse on and the ghost needs to be nearby to revive them. Making it so its not as simple as giving them an amulet they have already died I think its not fair to use other players Effigies due to the other player not getting the penalty as well as the amulet is just cheap. The altar could require lots of nightmare fuel and maybe some stuff from the ruins or something rare that would make sense in the use of resurrection.

Why would they need to be shooed if they aren't hostile? I also don't like the idea of any type of player-controlled ghost. It sounds needlessly complicated for no payoff. I still prefer just carrying corpses

Well say your playing Vs. with your friend 2 vs. 2 and one player flys over to see what the other person is doing while their dead and the people don't want them their they could wack them and they will respawn. And by play controlled ghost its more like the players sprite is replaced with the ghost sprite and they cant do anything thats all it is in the end really. you'd also be much faster.

yeah, let's give away benefits for dying

when i originally suggested it it was an option. I was thinking possibly also is that ghosts cannot see players unless they a struck by lighting and you can also make some kind of item you can drop that glows but can be seen in the ghost world and the overworld so you can help a dead teammate find you even though they cant see you. Also it was mainly for spectator mode since the cost of resurrection would be so costly that no one would want to die ever; it would be something along the lines of 30 Red Gems and 60 Nightmare Fuel or something god awful (obviously not that as the actual cost but something just as horrible as that).

with the ease to get resources in this game there can't really be something hard to get(except the dragon scale, but that's another story, and it's on RoG). There can be the grindy recipes(like the aforementioned 30 red gems and 60 nightmare fuel) and there can be the advanced but easy to get items(deerclops eye or the thingy's horn), but there's no such thing as a hard to get recipe in a game with such a small tech tree.

Also, why ghosts?

Well it appears SethR agrees with you...at least somewhat. I still stand by my opinion, but what he plans to do is certainly better than doing nothing. If "being dead" becomes its own part of the game rather than a seemingly annoying gimmick, that could be very interesting.

What else could you be if you died, I think making a player a Zombie or something would be stupid; Making the player nothing would just make the player a Camera and that boring. I picked Ghost since I'm able to rationalize extremely fast movement, flying and different volumes of existence (not being able to see people).

I don't really get why they should be so fast or not see people, but let's see what klei has for us.(and hope it's not just another buzzard)
