So I've been blahbouring about a giant mod I want to make. Looking at how much people put effort in making Up and Away I thought I would need A LOT of help to make my mod. There is a lot of content to cover, so all I can do right now, is share some ideas. Because I've gone bad at drawing (I have never been good at it when it comes to living creatures) I will need help on that too.

Right now I can reveal a few stuff from what I want in it:

* New mobs (e.g. Pinehog (which everyone loves), Meerfox, Owlynx, Deep sea fish (Haven't thought of a good name or mixed type of animal for this one, but it will be a boss for the Underwater world, a lot like for Ruins))

* New worlds (Underwater level 1 and 2, entrances through the ponds and sinse a lot of them are really close together, upper world generation will be needed to be changed)

* More loots from mobs and stuff

* Harder recipes (Thanks to two people I have that kinda sorted. The bad thing is that it all just looks messy and needs cleaning)

* Improved pig villages, Merm villages and improved Bunnymen villages (For now I'm thinking a lot about the edition of Pig village. The warriors would be passive mobs unless in certain circumstances. Pig king would be mortal and if he dies you could take his crown, or give it to another pig to become the King or just leave the crown there and a pig will take it becoming a king. Pig farmers, living in houses a lot like normal pigs, but being made out of straw not boards. The pig village would be surrounded by small Basalt rocks so the only way you could enter the village is through the entrance where the Warrior pigs guard it. They'll let you in as long as they don't agroo them or in some other cases. Due to farmer pigs, you could be quite safe in the village unless it's a full moon, but I'll work on the whole idea of this more)

That's pretty much it for now that I want to include in my mod, so if anyone is willing to help me make it, please write me to PM and I'll give you my skype so we can cooperate and may be I'll learn a lot more about lua myself on the way :D

Maybe it's just me, but don't you think you should first attempt something that is in your range of knowledge? It'd be like me trying to learn how to mod by making The Screecher 2.

This.  You need to walk before you can run.  What mods have you made by yourself, @XirmiX?

None. I tried to make a Setpiece with lureplants, but the tutorial was so old that it doesn't work at the end anymore. I really want to get into mod making. Two people helped me work with my Harder recipe mod and it worked. Two things I want to know right now:

1) If I want to edit an existing feature, would I always need a function at the beginning of the file?

2) E.g. If I want one mod to generate new recipes AND different loot for Rabbits, would I just need to make functions for them, edit them and just have both codes in one modmain.lua?

I meant none as in I never published one cause I made one small mod to add to a big one. How about you start me off, smartipants?

You just called "him" smartipants? Goodnight, sir. You certainly could do with some help

On a side note, I'd never play a mod that has all of that per default. Too much content and changes. Split into smaller mods or add options to toggle these things.

EDIT: As in, you need help urgently with that tall of an order and yet escalate things even further.

EDIT2: Smartipants understood as an insult. Cheese, why am I just pissing off everyone? I bet I just did it again.

Sarcasm - can't always be seen. Ehh...

But I really need help. There is no way that you guys can derp at me and expect me to do this months later. I actually need help! So please, if you're experienced, please PM me and I'll tell you my Steam account's username and/or skype's username so we cqn discuss how the mod is gonna work.

Note: I am good at lua to some extent. I partially understand the language and recognise what part of program does what, therefor I can edit it,but I'm not good at writing new functions and stuff for the program. I can however make one thing into a mod, cause I've already built a mod with the help of two people and it worked.

Can anyone give me a tutorial link or something for building set pieces for DS, which actually works with the current game program, cause the one I looked at was old and made my mod crash.

why am I just pissing off everyone? I bet I just did it again.

Yup, you just did. And I didn't mean to say it as an insult, just something to throw back at him for the troll.

But if you guys are here to complain, there is no point. If you don't want to help out, just don't post. And yes, with the mod many things will be optional in the World Generation, such as one thing is that you would need to set the Boons to "All" (option from the mod) to get all the set pieces at least one of them in the game (the smaller ones could be spawned twice or thrice or so).

The scenario here is that this looks just like any other request thread, it looks like your participation will be limited to spinning ideas. There are plenty of people who would be willing to give advice if you actually put some effort in yourself - you haven't.

There's nothing wrong with posting a request thread, plenty of people do it. But you can't really expect someone to help you, on the contrary, most request threads die off fairly quickly.

If you really want to make a "collaboration" like Up and Away, I'd suggest taking a look at how it was started. Highly experienced coders, artists and modders got together with a common idea - not just "adding more stuff".

Kind of off topic, but seriously.  Calling someone a troll every time they disagree with you really isn't going to get you very many friends or collaborators.  I've said this hundreds of times; if you can't take criticism, you shouldn't post your ideas.

If I may elaborate.  When debugman started the original thread, he already had something in the mod and a set goal in mindPeople liked the idea and could see that he knew what he was doing, so they collaborated with him and that's why it's where it is now.  (At least, the way I see it.)  Here, on the other hand, you don't even have the bare start of the mod, your ideas are incredibly scattered, and you call anyone who doesn't agree with you a troll.  No offense, but that's not exactly the mark of a good leader.

My suggestion?  Get more experience in modding by making a few smaller mods, learn to take criticism, and come back with a more set goal and at least a good start.  Perhaps then, this will be able to lift off.

Mmkay. The base idea actually is water, thought not sure if many people will like thirstiness. I've already asked two questions anyway and didn't get an answer, so, how am I supposed to progress?

This time you actually made some sensible feedback. It's just my opinion, but Lord_Battal, I just find you as a troll most of the time, don't take it too offensively (if that make sense), it's just my opinion.

Okay, hate to beat a dead horse, but...

Then you have a very long way to go.

This is trolling?

On a less off-topic note, the best place to start is at some one the modding tutorials by Klei.  They are a great help for beginners.  You can also try and dissect some code from mods similar to yours.

Okay,Thanks.

I'm alway willing to help with art things. I'm just a little bit busy with RL stuff and of course U&A.

But at least concept art and perhaps some atlases are probably still inside me...^-^
