frankinfurt
There's a beefalo herd right next to a small village of Pigs! I like this map so far and use the piggies quite often so I don't want to lose them! Will setting up a grass wall protect my pigs from being trampled to death when spring hits? I don't want to use unrenewable resources unless I have to! So make sure the wall circle the whole village ! LadyAzure
Or you could always herd them to a different location using a horn. That will ensure your pigs are safe. spencer320
If they're really close to each other, I would definitely suggest you move the herd. During the springtime rutting season, the Beefalo will destroy walls to get things on the other side. Or make 2 walls. One close to the pigs, another 5 or 6 away from it. I had rabbits penned in a grass wall, came back to grab a few and wall was gone. Beefalo were laughing at me for putting the wall up! Literally laughing at me. Wasn't cool!! frankinfurt
Thanks for the help guys! I will relocate them! as soon as I figure out how to get that horn without them murdering me! don't worry I think I can figure out that out! but this saves me the time it would of taken to build a wall Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/37057-beefalo-herds-how-do-i-protect-my-piggies/#findComment-492421 Share on other sites
spencer320
If you have the resources... tooth traps work great. Lay out a 2 x 10 grid. Aggro a beefalo, run thru the traps, making sure they run thru them, too. Once they lose agrro after passing thru the traps, run back around and reset them so as they walk thru them to get back, they get hit again. BurningBalls
thats a scary pictureIt's the best possible picture. =DAs for the topic, what about relocating the Pig Houses?I always move my Pig Houses about 1.5 screens away from a big cluster of Frog ponds. So I can get tons of free meat whenever I want, by smacking a Frog on the head, and leading an entire swarm to the Pig Houses. Decelexevi
Couldn't hurt to wall them off, since even if you use the Horn the beefalo will probably just migrate back eventually. Stone walls are pretty cheap, as you'll probably have a ton of extra stone from gathering gold/nitre. I personally whack down all the pig houses off in the distance just because I won't need them later. They provide valuable planks and not-so-valuable stone that can make quite a bit of wall. frankinfurt
I actually just learned about that when I wacked a fish head with a hammer cuz the flys were annoying me. I was like I get stuff from these?? I've been hunting pig for their skin and I can get a bunch from staked heads! I like the easier way I find stone is my biggest "gotta have it" I'm playing wigfrid so I'm especially stingey where I use stone! if I find they migrate back I will be fortifying the pig village, but it's only fall. THAT is brilliant! I haven't ever tried relocating pig houses seeing as I never have alot of pig skin, it really sounds like alot of work! There's so much to do right at the start with setting up home base.Which is why I asked about making grass walls cuz it was quick and easy (Well it sounded like a good idea)BUT I didn't want it to fail after going out of my way. Anyways no bigs crisis averted literally. Well as far as skins are concerned, I'd say what I've learned is the most important thing you can do in the game is set up a spider nest on one side of your base and pig houses on the other. Using the monster meat to constantly transform the pigs that will regenerate leaves you with unlimited food. The guaranteed skin drop on every werepig means you'll be drowning in them by your first full year. Too many, actually, or too much gold if you've been converting them. Ridley
You can have a beefalo and a pig in the same spot during mating season IF the pig has a beefalo hat on. For some reason blowing the horn while attacked a nearby hound sometimes caused the beefalo hat wearing pig to join the beefalos in the fight. I have tested this recently to see if it still works though.
