Do pigs repopulate?

Recommended Posts

When their numbers are low, and if so, what's the threshold?

I ask because my world was a bit short on pig houses, maybe 10 overall. I smashed and relocated a few and had 8 houses in a bunch near my base leaving those as the only ones left standing on the world. I also run mainly on the monster meat/werepig farming method, leaving those houses sometimes all vacant for a few days to recharge after killing their resident.

Sometime the next spring while I was farming for flooring I noticed at least a dozen of the lil' guys all hanging out in the middle of the map without the benefit of having homes anywhere. They definitely weren't there a season earlier.

Or is there a random event like frog rain where they just spawn in that I missed?

sometimes it can be the assaulted house set piece

Don't think so, the area in question had no pig houses ever. In fact I just started a new world and early on I encounter a merm village and they're already engaging more phantom pigs with no houses.

What I'm getting at is I think there has to be some condition in where they spawn aside from their houses, and it's always a small pack, not a loner.

assaulted house set piece, that's what i said...

1 pig house assaulted by 4 merms or 1 rundown house assaulted by 4 pigs...

Don't think they attack each other's houses unless prompted by a player ally. Or they might, but that doesn't matter as this is the state they were initially found in, and they wouldn't have been smashing each other's houses UNTIL I reached that area, which I reached via wormhole from the other side of the map. So there's no way they were interacting prior to my arrival.

That's why there were still 10 pigs with no homes alive when I showed up. They were stationary until I did and only started fighting when I did.

You aren't really listening, anyway. The initial post I had a dozen without any merms around at all. Just wandering a savanna biome in the middle of the map. How did their houses that never existed in this fully explored world get smashed by merms that don't exist?

I never said that they destroy houses..they aussalt them, by killing their inhabitants...

What theory? i just said that there is set pieces with 4 pigs/mermss assaulting one pig house/rundown house...

You're right, there is a set piece that does that. Found it in the wiki. Thanks.

My confusion was there was another set piece nearby (potato thingy) but I don't remember anything being attached to it other than the farms, pitchfork, etc.

Still confused as to what set piece caused the original incident, though, as I had tread over that ground at least a dozen times before seeing them. I guess they just got chased there though.

Ok :) You were talking about the pig house with axe and spiked tree?

Ok :-) You were talking about the pig house with axe and spiked tree?

Nah, the one you explained was a merm house at the edge of the swamps away from my base that has a pre-generated battle between pigs & merms.

I THINK the other was chased into my path eventually from another set piece by a nearby beefalo pack. Unfortunately I died in that game so I'll never actually know.
