it would be great if they go a certain place and your map will unlock imho

Instead of that, they could design it so that if someone goes where you haven't explored their icon disappears into the void. Once that player comes back to you, you have some interaction and then your map gets revealed based off of whatever they explored. That would be the coolest way to do it in my opinion, but if that's too hard to code then I'd like it to just unlock when your teammates explore as well.

Since it's meant to be Co-Op I think that it would be more productive if the map updated for everybody when one person goes exploring. It would be a lot more productive and it would be a lot easier to implement to the game. However, I do think that what Polygone said is a good idea. When players get close to each other the maps could automatically update.

Some parchment, some wood planks, a compass,  maybe charcoal or berries (for ink),  and you build a bulletin board/ communal map.   By interacting with it you put your map info onto it and gain any info on it that you didn't have.  So basically that each player could essentially update the map for others to inspect and learn what they learned.
