Is anyone else making two camps? One for Summer and one for Winter?

Recommended Posts

I like having all of my stuff together and close by, but now with the addition of Summer that´s a terrible idea. Having all of it all close together can be hell if a fire starts. So I make two bases, one for Winter, where I have all of my crops and my main items, and then one for Summer, where I have the special fire pit, an Ice box and a couple bushes and twigs.

Is anyone else doing this? Day 82, so as for now it´s worked pretty well for me.

I always wanted to do it and I probably will in my next game. However, in my current game (which I started when Webber was released), I am running on a single camp for all seasons and I never had any problems so far. I'm currently on day 317. You can see what my ''all season camp'' looks like at near the bottom of page 3 of the thread linked below. You'll also find the upgraded version with night light on page 4.

Could you upload screenshots of your summer and winter camps here ? =)

I considered doing it but after surviving a summer with Wendy by adding the old flingomatics around my base, I don't think it is worth the time and resource investment.

But I also want to see the pictures pls

Nothing out of the ordinary, I´m not that good at the game. Basically one is just full of farms and the normal stuff for Winter. While the Summer one is smaller, less stuff in it, no farms, just an Ice Box, the special fire to keep you cool. Because I´m playing as Webber and I have unlimited silk, during the Summer all I do is fish for food, don´t need anything else.

Here are some pictures of the map, I´ll post more when I feel like playing again. The bottom one is the Winter one and the Summer base is at the top.

Hi!

In fact I have 4 camps... 1 is my base and the other 3 are basic and strategic camps. The first has everything for a confortable life (even the sweet carpeted flouring and its wonderfull cozy sound) whereas the structure of the other 3 depends on the biome it's settled in and/or the task it's supposed to be built for.

The camp in the savana contains lots of treasure boxes with traps (for meat, fur and rabbits), the one near the swamp has mostly weapons and the one near the pig village has all the stuff that can be traded for gold...

So in fact I have a camp at every corner of the map!

Thanks I didn't know that, since I didn't get enough ice for a flingomatic I think I might just grab stuff I think I'll need then create a new endothermic fire pit a little way away from my main one to avoid risking losing everything :)

Thanks again

Once Summer starts, I would completely avoid returning to the Winter camp, even if it´s for a short visit, it´s enough time for a fire to abrupt without you knowing. Make sure you have an Ice Box over there, where you can cool your Thermal Stone and keep your Ice Cube hat from melting. That, and some nearby source of food (remember that Berry bushes grow stupidly quickly in Summer, although they might dry up and you might need to fertilize them). Good luck.

Also, if you are planning of crating something new, unless you bring a science machine with you., prepare it before hand.

The only reason I am currently hesitating to live on separate camps (specifically for summer and winter) is that, knowing myself, I would still make emergency ice flingomatics in my winter camp just in case something terrible happens and I am forced to run to this camp during summer. I would then be sure that the place where I retreated was safe, and if it is safe for summer, might as well just use a single camp.

I guess the reason why I would make more than one camp is to retreat in case something bad happens to my main camp, or to be closer to some strategic point on the map. To be honest, I tend to make cave outpost in every caves. I sometimes even make more than one in each cave, depending on what I find (I usually use set pieces + make another camp near the entrance of the ruins). Sometimes, I make a ''checkpoint'' near some lightflowers in the ruins by the entrance of the maze. That way, I can wait out during nightmares hidden under a bush hat.

Thanks for the advice, I nipped back for some materials and food, think I got away with it.

Only played a couple of days in Summer so far, don't have an ice cube hat, nor a fridge there, can't remember if I brought my gears with me, may risk another trip back if I don't so I can get the stuff I need.

I'm playing as Wigfrid (for the first time, enjoying it so far, very different from how I've played before!) so sadly berries won't help at the moment, since I don't have a crockpot in that 'base' (at the moment it's literally just an endothermic fire pit!)

I'm near some ponds though, so hopefully a mixture of frog's legs and fish should get me through it :)
