For anyone wondering, standalone only seems to mean that you won't need Steam once the DLC goes live. You still need the base game, Don't Starve, to play Reign of Giants DLC: "Reign Of Giants is an expansion to Don't Starve and does not include the base game of Don't Starve; the Reign of Giants expansion must be purchased separately." The usage of "standalone" in the FAQ seems wrong to me, as it makes it sound like you could just get the DLC and play that without having the base game.
